Just started playing in a country band, doing old-school honky-tonk stuff. Merle, Buck, Gram, that kind of thing, more Bakersfield and Texas than Nashville. Great deal of fun and things are coming together nicely. In my other band, I play mostly rock and do the lead work. In this one, I get to just play rhythm on acoustic, and on electric on a few tunes, like Six Days and Working Man's.

Wanted to throw the discussion open for band names. Mostly, we're coming up with bad names, mostly to amuse ourselves. We've thrown out The Gram Crackers, The Good, The Bad and Jeff and Sons of Elder Katie.

So throw out some names. Maybe we'll steal one of them...

The funny thing about those threads is that some posters are joking and other are serious, but it's hard to tell them apart by the band names they give.

Sons of Katie Elder, nice! I think that would probably hit home with your target audience. That's a really cool name idea actually. If you don't take it, I might someday...

I wanted to name our band the Armadillos. Like the more country, Texas version of the Eagles or something, haha. But the guys in my band were spoil sports...

Paramount probably owns the copyright to the name " Sons of Katie Elder" :(

But I too like the name! :)

My idea was to use The Sons of Elder Katie.

I also came up with Roadkill Armadillos.

The bass player and I were talking it over and coming up with all sorts of names and his wife said, You know, everything doesn't has to be joke. Well, I don't know about that...

Well...How about this. The most iconic venue in Bakersfield for that sound was the Blackboard Cafe. Don't even know if it's still there (Toto's Dad would) but that's where everybody who was anybody played. Another place in Portland where Buck Owens and the Buckaroos appeared frequently (my folks used to go there to see him but I was too young at the time) was called the Stone Pony.

BLACKBOARD PONY would be something that those of us in the know would get...To everyone else it would just be a cool name...:D
