Good afternoon,
After finally finishing my vibrochamp the itch for something new is coming again. My other amp (Korean Blues Junior clone) ia getting no play time, the champ kills it sound wise.
The korean clone had some issues with bad PCB routing causing oscillations. That has been solved thanks to the TDPRI expertise two years ago.
I really want to use the parts as much as possible (chassis, transformers, tubes, cabinet) and I really like the sound of a BF super reverb.
Currently my idea is to build a AA763 preamp (without tremolo), a mastervolume (type 3, or 4 trainwreck type) and an EL84 output stage. Since I don't have the space for a tube rectifier I'll use SS rectifier with sag resistor to simulate tube rectication.
Some questions I'm having that elude my tube amp knowledge....
The voltage swing required by an 6V6 is much higher as an EL84's. So the PPIMasterVolume can solve that I guess. By I can also use the preamp of a princeton reverb, that will solve part of the extra gain produced by the LTPI.
With one triode stage left it got me thinking I could use that to possibly have a switchable additional gain stage, creating a high gain preamp that can be switched out if not required....
The last question is that of the power amp stage. I could use the topology of Hoffmans BJunior conversion (or ProJunior), or clone the EL84 Tremolux schematic (using my onw PT will prevent the overly hot voltages from the Tremolux) I want to get as close as possible to the BF sound as possible.
Some advice will be appreciated.
