I love my Ella which I think I shared a pic to you before. She's kind of a cross between a red and blue merle with blue eyes. I love her to pieces... lol as nuts as she is.

Congrats on the new boy! He is a real looker!

Congratulations on your new pup. You sound like an expert and knew what you wanted, having been there.

Without knowing what we were getting into we rescued a half breed, half Aussie shepherd, half pit bull. Amazingly loyal. A great family dog. I can pull a bone out of her mouth and she would never bite me. She is totally reliable in terms of family friendliness.

But around other dogs, forget about it. When grown men come over, she eyes them cautiously, and when not looking will come up and bite their calves. When little kids start sprinting in the yard, she chases them and tackles them, or if we're lucky she just corrals them. When she sees the UPS guy coming up the walk, she goes berserk in the window. She's as loud and scary as a Rottweiler.

And the wind freaks her out, and simple things in the house, like the door closing or the sound of the oven. Totally aware of all of the noises and they scare her. She's super smart but a desk chair on wheels that's been in the same place since she's lived here gives her pause when it moves. If a bucket falls down outside, she approaches cautiously and barks at it until I pick it up and show her it is a bucket. Hard to figure this dog. But we love her.

My only regret would be I would like her to be more personable to friends, neighbors and other dogs. She is too over protective. When my wife or kid goes out for a walk, she'll jump a 40" high fence to follow after them...and she's 70 lbs.

She goes crazy for squirrels and unfortunately has killed 7 already, plus a rat. She loses her mind for squirrels.

Had to look up the breed as had never heard of the Aussies shepherd dog. Found out that it is not Australian at all which is probably why I had never heard of it. It was developed and named in the USA. Here in Aus., as working stock dogs, we have Blue Heelers, Red Cattle Dogs, Border Collies and various mixtures of those three.

We’re border collie folks, but our last two have been Merles. Indigo was a blue, gorgeous, and taken too soon by cancer.

About 9 months before she passed, we picked up a red merle, and she is adorable. Precious, energetic, and like the last one, a ball junkie. If you have this problem, I cannot recommend a “Chuck It” wand highly enough. DCB3BF08-2637-4204-8E5F-52A56E20B3FB.jpeg D9DF1A14-B8F8-43F7-B2E1-5DDEE8049256.jpeg

Honestly, I’m hoping this is our last dog like this, because I’m in my early 50s and already a bit arthritic, I don’t want to still be doing this in 15 years.

    Beautiful pup, congratulations.

We lost our girl SheRa two months ago to a rare bone cancer at 13 1/2 - she was literally the best dog in the world.

Part of my job is assessing dog’s temperament with her help, so I am an expert in this field. And she was also the best co-worker anyone has ever had in the history of the world. I’m being slightly facetious.... but only slightly.

    Congrats on you new addition!
(Can I ask what breeder your guy is from?)

    Beautiful dog.

1 acre equals one Australian Shepherd.

3 acres equals two Australian shepherds.

And so on and so on...

In my part of Aus, Red cattle dogs are Kelpies.
