Just bought a 68 Deelux and got it in Friday. Tubes were nicely packed in a separate box. As I started to unwrap them, I was shocked to discover that every stinking one of them was an old RCA. I almost started to cry. Lol, I am almost scared to play them. Seriously

Put 'em in and play 'em! They're made to be used! Smoke 'em if you got 'em! And enjoy!

I'm sure we're gonna be all kinds of happy for you, just as soon as you post a few pictures. Seems you've been a member since 2004. Rules.

Pictures or it didn't happen. It's not like I'm making this up.

They test strong, so I prolly will. I feel like a swisher sweet dude that just found a box of Cubans.

Lol, Sorry, I forgot my manners. I’ll post pics ASAP. Amp is at my techs house gettin a good going over. Amp was unmolested, and the reverb tank didn’t survive the trip on the ups truck. So, new tank, electrolytics and such.

They are probably original to the amp too, if I had to guess.

I sure hope none are microphonic. I always get my hopes up high when I score vintage tubes that test NOS only to end up crushed. It is getting worse with every passing year as the supply of tubes disappears, soon I will stop trying altogether. I do agree with the others, if they sound good....played the hell out of them while you can.

Bear in mind - not to pee on your bbq - there's RCAs, and RCAs. The late greyplates are solid tubes and great performers but not venerated quite as much as the blackplates.

So don't feel so bad about using them up. Mind you - my Superchamp finally wore out it's greyplate 6V6s this year - 36 years in. So they could be good for a while....

The longplate AX7 blackplates are the holy grail preamps.

Electro's are shot, grid resistors read off spec, surprisingly about everything else has read within spec.

I've got a vintage 2012 Super Champ XD (In my avatar) with original 50's tubes in her and she sounds great!!! Stock cone for now... but thinking of going with an alnico bell'd Jensen or Weber at some point. Anyway, thought you'd get a kick this ;)

That 66 Super Reverb I picked up last fall, (and still haven't serviced) came loaded with new JJ tubes.
Yeah that always makes my day. . . . .
    Price was decent enough anyway.

I now have Sovtek OTK-marked smoke glass NOS 6p6n - they seem to be excellent. Great cleans, good bass, nice volume.

Oh man.... So Sorry.... you dont have to put up with those old tubes. I mean they must not be any good..... They dont even make them any more. PM me and I will send you a BRAND New set of JJs and send those to me for disposal, so that you can get through this dissapointg moment in your tube amp adventures.

I appreciate your kind gesture, but i think I'll keep em in there for a while. I like the way they smell.

Has this unexpected windfall made you think about getting a few more vintage tubes?

My 68 Princeton Reverb came with the original tubes. It was a nice surprise.
