    I always set it slightly cool for my taste as I hate burning the valves out so fast. When I repair or re-valve any Fender, I set the bias as per the service manual.

    I set a fixed bias PP amp so the plate dissipation is close to 70% max and play it some. Then try it a little higher and lower and find what sounds best.

    i try and hit that ballpark 60-70% figure, but then set it so that i get a good compromise between minimizing crossover distortion or minimizing hum.
