And here we are again. Couldn’t resist, when this one came to my local music store.

So it’s 2021 road worn Tele. I don’t have a slightest idea what I gonna do with it (play perhaps?). It’s too close to 70th Anniversary Broadcaster. Okay, this one is good to modify, Broadcaster may be more of a collector’s item which should be remain intact.

Sounds nice enough. I might change from that Vintera 50s modified those Lollar Vintage Ts to this one and vice versa.

Pics of the relicing job, you’ll be the judge:

The neck relic looks like someone at Ensenada decided to make this a Yngvie Malmsteen scalloped

So what to do with this, other than play? Burn it on a bonfire?

I think the Road Worn's are seriously good guitars and quite underrated.

I've got the first generation and its even more relic'd than this which I personally like.

    Enjoy yours!

    It's a musical instrument.

If it plays good and it sounds good, make music with it.

    Have fun!

The wear on those looks fine compared with the early models, on which the fretboards looked as though they had been reliced with a lawnmower.

    I'd play it.

    Quick A/B.

The DP has Lollar vintage Ts, and RW has stock.

Lollars are so much more articulated in every position. RW sounds kinda muffled.

    Alternative suggestions:

    1) swap the pickups from one to the another
    2) buy Lollar ’52s to RW
    3) do nothing

    I think I’ll go with number 2...

The wear on the neck (fretboard shoulders) looks much better that some of the CS stuff I've seen in the past.

Fender Mex is stepping up their game!

    Under the hood:

Usual cheese hole, and unusual ”roadworn” text.

I am not liking the road worn finishes.

I have handled vintage instruments and none of them looked like they were eaten by beavers or had a blind man try to insert the cable into the jack.

Why can't these guys figure out what a vintage instrument looks like?

Now since my rant is over.

I love that color combo!! And happy NGD!

    Hi Mr. Preacher man!

These two are just a bunch of ”toy guitars”. Real players are not in the pics. Some guitars are made to be tinkered with, while others are keepers just as the left the factory. Ie 2017 GH rosewood, wouldn’t do a thing to it, but just play.

The relic job isn't too bad. There is indeed a "nibbled" quality to the edges, and the individual wear marks ("bites"?) look suspiciously similar and too evenly spaced. The chipped edges look too fresh and unworn, too. I bet that a little judicious rubbing with any number of fine abrasives, wet or dry, could make it look more realistic. A little real-world use, and real-world dirt, might be enough.

Very nice, I think the wear looks pretty good on the new RW series. Congratulations.

    A/B with 70th Anniversary Broadcaster.

    F4EBE57C-2869-4836-B6DF-7F0D71A0876B.jpeg

Left, Broadcaster and on the right, RW.

The RW has kinda satin finish on the neck. Smooth as silk. The Broadcaster has a thick(ish) layer of nitro, thus being a bit stickier.

The visual appearance goes 40-0 to Broadcaster. Great grain figures, as RW doesn’t have none.

Playability: the RW is lighter and having satin neck, it feels more comfortable.

Tones: Broadcaster wins this by a mile.

Conclusions: Broadcaster is clearly more high end guitar. It just need some serious spanking. RW is nice enough. Would do a gig with it anytime. The pickups are bit weak and non-articulated. All in all; I’ll keep them both, keep the Broadcaster as it is, and probably tweak the RW some day.

Remark: the RW is a great guitar. I just have so much better Teles, so I have to compare it to the others. I hope you don’t think this is a snobbery; no, it’s just my 2 €urocents.
