Beautiful. The shadow and reflections in those pictures and what's under it make it look like the body is translucent at a glance.

    Really great looking!

Aside from wet sanding through at the edge of the cutaway, I left the body sitting too on the rag tight after wet-sanding with mineral spirits, it caused the finish to blister some (it shrank back) and left part of the back full of tiny pinholes that I assume vented from the inside out. And there is a “dent” where I rushed to scrap a drip and pulled up more finish underneath.

Wyatt, what’s your opinion on relic’d guitars?

I come from a fine art background, so I do appreciate and enjoy the craftsmanship of a great convincing relic job. It reminds me the the hard work that goes into restoring/repairing (and, yes, forging) art and antiques. But not something I'm going to try and master on this body.

Looks great to me! I usually reach the point of 'Meh - good enough' way before it looks anywhere near that nice!

“Never again”…..it takes experience to do a nice finish without problems. I’ve done over two hundred, and problems still unexpectedly happen. Unless you have an actual spray booth with fans, filters, lighting and humidity control you run the risk of getting debris in the finish, blushing from humidity or runs and sags from improper lighting.
But anyone can get a great finish with today’s adjustable spray cans and some diligent preparation. All the DIY info is available on many websites, but the most important thing is that you enjoy the process. If it’s a big PITA for you before you even begin, forget it.

I'm better with a knife (chef), than a soldering iron. But your ax looks pretty nice. Good job!
