I’ve always loved this song. Recently I was watching YouTube videos and came across the cover by Linda Ronstadt. No one would ever confuse Linda’s angelic voice with Neil’s but Young’s version is much better IMO.
Ronstadt’s version is elegant but is overproduced to my ears and I much prefer the raw, simple quality of Neil’s original. Even Neil’s live performances where he only accompanies himself with a piano or guitar are powerful.
I think it’s a simple matter of sometimes “less is more”.

Less is almost always more. At least in music ☺

I was working on Neil Young's Tell Me Why and came across Norah Jones' cover, which I guess she plays live pretty regularly - same deal.
