Use the tone knob on the Tele and it can tame the twang. On a tele the tone knob is your friend. Shake its hand and get to know it.;)

I have given this some thought over night and never really understood my different approaches to playing my tele vs. my strat. Now that I am in recording mode, I am sitting down more often and just don't like playing my strat sitting down. I'm glad you mentioned this as I must rethink how I am recording stuff.

As others have said, I would try to figure out a way to get both a Strat and a Tele. Each has it's own unique sounda and playability.

    Tele is superior.

Want a strat neck? You can get that.

Everything else is advantage tele, especially with electrosocket and four-way.

If you are not comfortable with an instrument, it will be noticeable in your playing. I can really notice it when I record using different instruments and that is what moved me to larger bodied instruments for my seated playing needs.

There is a strat or two in country music. If you like the strat, we will work diligently everyday to forgive you! Besides, you're 40. Soon your hair will fall out, and grow in places you never knew existed. You will wither into grumpyness. Many of your musical heroes will start to die off and you will be ready for that tele.... for now, chase those shapely curves of the all those pretty strats... we'll right here, waiting..... or, dead.....some of us may be dead.....

    1. If you don't have either a tele or a strat, just get one, at least at first. You want to fully bond with whatever you get.
    2. It seems your mind is saying tele, but your heart is saying strat, so I'd go with my heart.
    3. I played Gibson's for a long time and found myself in a similar situation. I went with a strat, which I love, but it gave me a basis to judge. So when I got a Road Worn Tele last year, I've played almost nothing else since.

It was always harder to want the Tele than the Strat for me. It's not that uncommon. Teles are a bit different and I think they take a little more care in getting the sound you like for sure. Start with the Strat. In a few years you'll have a dozen guitars anyway!
