Hello Telecaster people. I need your help/insight/wisdom. I am on the hunt and have been for some time. I want a lightweight (low 7's) small/slimmer/thin neck tele with a rosewood fretboard. I have a 72 Gibson es 335 (love its neck) and a 92 ric 330 (love it's neck). I used to own a 90 American Standard Tele and it's neck was a little too full on frets 1-4. Willing to spend 3k. Will you lend me your intel? Thanks

I would say with that budget, you could contact a custom maker and get something built to your specs.

Recently put together a Tele with a Fender Tele body and a Warmoth neck. The "59 Round Back" rosewood neck might be what you're looking for. It has a similar feel to a 55 ES 175D I had and really liked it. With your budget you've got a lot of options. One is to buy a light Tele body from Warmoth or another vendor and choose a neck or have one made to your specs. I had a great time putting mine together and I was able to use the hardware/pickups that I wanted as well as getting the neck profile I was looking for without searching for a new/used instrument. This would be well within you budget range. Just a thought.

Good luck!

.

1-Buy the Tele you want (with whatever neck it comes with)

2-Buy the neck you want from Fender (replacement parts), Stratosphere (they dismantle and part out guitars), Warmoth/etc companies, or find a builder to make you a custom neck.

If you buy a full custom guitar you'll always wonder if you have the authentic Tele tone (it's not hard to get, but you'll wonder). So make sure you start with the loaded Tele body, best value would be a MIM Player Series, but some buyers want the full MIA experience.

Just a note: I found, across all guitars from any brand/factory/builder ... if you mix woods like rosewood fretboard on maple, you'll have a neck that moves around more through temperature and humidity for more tuning instability. I like all maple necks as they also have a finish applied that further retards humidity issues, and I dislike the importing of rosewood or exotic lumber from fragile rain forests anyway. Support the US/Canadian maple industry. If you do need to buy a mixed wood neck ... get one that was built the same time of the year as your regular environment -- hot humid summer built neck moved to a dry location will move around more than a dry winter built one, or the reverse can happen.
