    Greetings - my first post....
Trying to work out what price to ask for this….

Feb 98 Fender Custom Shop Telecaster
Fred Stuart Model - (see Signature on back of head stock) 1st photo

See 2nd photo of original new guitar in case.
Then 3rd photo of mods done by previous owner

I’ve had Matt’s Guitars in Morayfield return it to the original look
The rest of the photos were taken today showing how the guitar looks now.

    Details as follows…..
    Original Fender Ebony fretboard
    Original Fender Swamp Ash body
Original Fender Birds Eye Maple neck (see photo showing Fender Manf detail)

All else is original except the following….
    New Genuine Fender Bridge
    New Genuine Fender control plate
New Non Genuine pick guard (none in the country sadly)
    New Genuine Fender knobs
    New Genuine Fender pot
Full Setup and Fret tidy Up etc

    Matt said this…
“This is a king guitar, it does not get much better for that true tele tone”

first, I'll just say that the herringbone binding on front and back of the guitar looks amazing, as does the birds eye maple. In addition to the specifications you have already listed, I would recommend that you also try to determine what kind of pickups are in that guitar and whether or not there is a Certificate of Authenticity available - usually kept in the case - and whether or not the case is still available as well.

On just appearance, that's a fine looking telecaster. In my opinion.

All I can help with on value is US related, but at least a start. If your avatar photo is telling a story, maybe you are not as familiar with guitars as you might be with flutes or other wind instruments?

As far as used custom shop Fender telecasters, there are something like 260 of them currently listed on Reverb, a well-known re-sale website. The majority of these listed at prices ranging from $US 2,500 to over $US 8,000. When you start getting into the range of over $3,500, you start to see listings where the individual builder is identified, like Greg Fessler, Chris Fleming, Dennis Galuszka, Yuriy Shishkov and your guy, Fred Stuart. These names mean something to a certain small subset of guitar buyers.

A lot of people order custom shop guitars to get specific things that mean something to that individual. Those specific set of "things" (specs), may or may not appeal to any other buyer. On the reverb listings, I see a number of asking prices that have been reduced. Say from 4,999 to 3,999. Not saying that applies to your guitar specifically, but just a caution that timing can be an issue. A one-off guitar may take some time to sell - or it might sell within a week. Hard to say.

Best of luck in any event, and hopefully some of our Australian colleagues will make an appearance here to help translate my US oriented comments to Oz-speak for telecasters...

EDIT: Also found this video on YouTube with Fred Stuart himself:

and for what it's worth, a telecaster similar to the one in the YouTube video was listed on Sweetwater for $8,400.
