Coming back to my favorite forum to help find the best set of HB's for my son's original LP.

He's played his Raven West LP-style guitar into the ground the past 8 years or so. So much that he's broken the pickup selector.

Well, I, being one who cannot just repair a guitar to original status, am in the process of wiring the guitar up Jimmy Page style, with 4 push-pull pots. The problem now is I need to get some nice gold humbuckers with 4 leads to replace his oem pickups. I have the gear to make pickups, but not the time right now to invest in learning how to make a nice pair.

So, does anyone have some suggestions? He's a blues/rocker, and has used that guitar to play tribute shows like Floyd, Allman Brothers, Hendrix, Clapton, Santana, etc...

I'm trying to keep very budget conscious, since we're fixing the house up to put it on the market next summer. The cheaper in cost, the better, as long as it sounds better than the original pickups.

He's going to need the frets replaced within a year, I can put them in, but will have plenty of time to worry about that later.

Seymour Duncan '59 Reverse Wind in the neck and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge. Done.

This set was used in a few Fender Special Run Tele's, two of which I owned. Very nice alnico pickup set that won't break the bank - and would easily handle your son's music styles.

What I liked about them was that they were very "musical" with low volume settings, but really came alive as you twisted the volume knob!

    Good luck!

I liked these cheap pickups a lot:

and you can order them with gold covers too.
But they are from UK, I don't know if the shipment costs nullify the saving.
(prices are in British pounds with VAT, so it is about USD 43.00 each with gold covers and no taxes included + shipment)
