    NICE find!

Probably a GIO GTR-70, made somewhere around 1999-2002. These were inexpensive when new, but very high quality for the price. Clean that thing up and rock it!

    Absolutely.

Or, more rather, the GIO GTR 50, since it's a single-pickup model with two knobs.
The GTR 70 had two pickups and three knobs.

I bought one for a good friend (a few years ago) after he got out of prison.
He had lost his entire rig of course. So I found the GIO for a decent price, along with an Acoustic brand bass amp and cable.

My brother was traveling down that way, so he delivered everything, and it was happy times for my buddy, who took to jamming with his two sons. (Both were guitar players who also played drums.)

    Good bass.
    Good times.

    :)

    Wow, thanks for the replies.

The jack plate area had gotten crunched and reglued in an off-kilter way, so there are some weird ridges around the hole. There's an area of missing (thick) finish there too - looks like a green Sharpie may have been used to attempt a coverup. The corroded strings need replacement. And though I wiped it off well, the instrument should be disassembled for deeper cleaning, if I keep it. The truss rod worked, but a neck shim might improve the action a bit more.

Fix the problems rapidly for zero bucks, and donate it to my favorite charity? I have done this with a few semi-busted instruments. It is a good feeling.

Or buy new pickguard and pickup screws, new strings, camouflage the paint and wood anomalies, and add it to my growing fleet of playable cheapos?

Or get a cheap heat gun, peel off the thick finish, sand it down, and make this a totally individual bass with DIY finish and/or art?

    Still deciding.

    That's a real score!
Our singer's son-in-law came upon a neighbour about to put a Fender amp in the bin. He was told it didn't work but took it home anyway. It wouldn't power up so I opened it up and pulled out the amp chassis for a look. One 50p fuse later our singer had a working Fender Champion 300 amp that he's been using for the last 8 years or so. Another score!

I think the bigger point here is that you have a wife that can spot instruments in the neighbors trash. Well done sir. Cool bass too.

I found a twenty dollar bill when I was a kid walking up the street, I made the mistake of showing it to my old man. THEN HE had a twenty dollar bill.

    Nice find!

I was hoping for a “new Body Day” lol. Then followed by “found in the alley” that would be great!

Great find - it's all about timing.
Another 10 minutes and somebody else would be posting "found!"

My wife helped clean out the loft the other day. Filthy, dirty, covered in cobwebs……………..but she’s good with the kids
