[Brand New] Fender Limited-Edition '65 Princeton Reverb 12W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Tweed

This came in today but it doesn't work because the rectifier tube was installed into the 1st power tube position and the power tube into the rectifier position (note: all preamp tube filaments lit up but not the power or rectifier tubes. I called the music store and emailed the attached pictures. They OK me to put the tubes back into their proper positions and see if the amp would work.

Well, all preamp tubes and the power and rectifier tubes filaments lit up but there is no output can be heard 0-10 volume. Maybe an internal fuse has blown? Any hoot, taking it back tomorrow for a replacement.

Thanks. I respect your opinion of seems wrong. As to Tweed vs. Blackface. I'm not partial to one or the other as long as I get the sound that I like. I happen to like the tweed color scheme of this amp as well as the basic black of my 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb Handwired. Insofar as how it sounds, tweed/blackface or somewhere in between, that remains to be determined once I get the replacement (but the one I demoed at the guitar store did sound some where in between to my ears).

That first preamp tube looks real crooked, too, but defer to better trained eyes.

Makes you wonder how special a "limited edition" is when you see that level of (in)attention to detail. What a drag. I hope it's a no-sweat fix. I'd say "nice amp!," but an amp that makes no sound is anything but.

Thanks, jrblue. I think it's the music store and not Fender that got things wrong. The amp was shipped from another stores inventory and they removed all the preamp tubes and bubble wrapped them; however, they did not remove the power and rectifier tubes and bubble wrap them - I'm thinking they initially removed them and then decided to reinstall since there are the socket retainers. This is when the mix-up most likely happened and where not paying attention came into play.

Checked again but I guess the first picture camera angle or lens distortion gave the appearance of the tube slanted. IMG_4369.jpeg

Yeah... it looked like a Tele neck on a Les Paul or vice versa. That's just wrong. Pretty sure if you keep mixing themes like this you'll end up summoning Cthulhu. :)

Got that right it's crooked! Dunno if it still connects regardless though.

I'm thrilled to hear that amp comes with a 12-inch speaker. The Princetons using 10in speakers just don't sound nearly as good. Good luck with the amp. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Well, some of us have no issues with mixed-face babies...

I think he would like the mixing. After all he is part octopus, dragon in caricature of human form:)

Took amp back to music store today and they have another one coming in sealed Fender Factory box. Manager still can't figure out why the other store personnel felt it was best to remove the amp and repackage for shipment. He was also ticked-off at the other store as this type of mix-up should have never happened.

Will post outcome when I receive the replacement amp next week.

Enjoy the weekend as much as possible.

It will be nice when the myth of removing tubes for shipment goes away. Never had an issues with tubes being installed in an amp for shipment but have had quite a few problems with tubes being removed for shipment - broken in removal, poorly packed and broken, or the recipient incorrectly reinstalling them.
