Doing a natural Telecaster and looking for some advise. Going to tint the maple Warmoth neck with StewMac vintage amber and finish with Tru-oil but not sure about the body.

I have a nice light (3 pound 9 once) swamp ash body also from Warmoth and was thinking about using the vintage amber also and then covering with ReRanch nitro in satin. Has anyone done that and how does it look?

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated. Van.

When you say StewMac vintage amber are you talking about a stain or aerosol lacquer?

For your satin finish why not use Deft or Minwax lacquer in Satin. Probably 1/2 the cost and no shipping.

It is a concentrated liquid stain you can apply either by cutting it with water or alcohol - I normally use water.

I used the reranch tinted clear coat satin and it came out nicely - I think the same effect you are trying to achieve

I prefer Behlens Stringed instrument laquer (nitro) over shellac. I mix blonde flakes with some garnet flakes to get the tint I want.
