One of my friends has a black cat. It's very nice and friendly. Always greets me when I visit and hops up into petting range when I sit down. He said it's a "Bombay" cat, and I did some research. It's a man-made breed designed to resemble a black panther - all black except the eyes. I think I'll look for one when our current tomcat goes to the big litterbox in the sky.

What I like most about black cats is how dignified and regal they are.

I remember crashing out on friend's couch after rehearsing and a bit of drinking. When i woke up in the middle of the night, his black cat was sitting on my chest, looking at me sleeping.

Or maybe trying to steal my soul or something.

I love all those photos of the black kitties.

PSA Alert: For any of you who own black cats that go outside, keep in mind that its almost Halloween. Keep your cats inside for the next few days. There are sickos out there who abuse black cats on Halloween.

I agree. We could do an entire thread and have a contest around giving that picture a CAPTION. Grand Prize would be 10 lbs of Tidy Cat.

They'd better watch out if they take on Barry.

A serious point though and very timely. Barry is ownerless and has lived outside as far as we know for all his approx 8 years. He won't come into our house and won't tolerate being touched. He routinely sees off the local foxes from food we put out for him, so I hope he's reasonably safe. Thanks for highlighting it Dwight.

Growing up, we had a cat we called "black kitty". He was mostly black, with splashes of other colors. He used to growl at us, like a dog, when he wanted in or out. I don't have pictures unfortunately.

I don’t have a kitty anymore but thank you for sharing all your wonderful pictures. Animals are the best!
