I bought a JV tele with this wiring done to it. My question is, are the middle and neck position the the same setting/sound? The both say "neck clean."

It looks like it's just the original way Teles were wired before 1967 only it looks like there is a mistake in the diagram.
The 0.1 cap should go from the switch to ground on the vol pot. And a wire from the centre lug of the vol pot should go to the hot lug of the output jack.
And in that case the 1 pos would be the neck pup with a very bassy sound.
Pos 2 would be neck alone.
Pos 3 would be bridge alone.

I don't know in what way Nancy's wiring was different. I know there was a fault in his bridge pick up. But there might have been something different in the wiring as well. Perhaps someone else knows more about that....;-)
