How the heck do you play this song? What are the chords? I've got the intro down, but the chords to the vocal parts I can't get down. And the timing of the changes are confusing too. I've tried googling, but all of those I've seen are wrong...

Anyway, good song, and yes, this is inspired by the Kill Bill thread :D

The first section is a what I would call a 4/4 waltz feel. There is only a strong beat on the 1st beat of each bar. Typically in 4/4 the 3rd beat also gets some emphasis but in this case it doesn't which gives it that loping waltz feel.

The second section could be counted in 8/4 counted as 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2.

At least that's one possibility.

Capo on the 1st fret.

Em
I was five and he was six

Am
We rode on horses made of sticks

D
He wore black and I wore white

Bm
He would always win the fight

Em
Bang bang, he shot me down
Am
Bang bang, I hit the ground
D

Bm

It's the same for the rest of the song.

Hey Volitan great tune!

I remember spending a few days with it when Kill Bill first came out as well. Thanks for the reminder, I spent an hour or so today on it and plan on getting the whole thing under my belt before I move on.

is this the tune you're referring to ?

I saw that one. Didn't think of a capo so I was sitting here transposing it a half-step up. But even then it sounded like a couple chords were missing...

The Sinatra version is a million times better than Chers. It's just kinda weird seeing Frank in a long blond wig. Eeeeuuuuuuooooowwwahhhh!!!!!

I didn't bother writing out some of the little bass runs the guitarist is doing because they're pretty obvious and easy to improvise anyway.

Of course you could capo it at the 1st fret and play the corresponding open chord shapes.

Sinatra Version: Important: Use copious amounts of mysterious sounding tremble-o on the guitar!!!

Intro and between verses: Fm - Bbm - C7

Verse:
Fm----------- Fm/Maj7
I was five and he was six

Fm7 --------------- Fm6
We rode on horses made of sticks

Eb
He wore black and I wore white

C7
He would always win the fight

Fm
Bang bang, he shot me down
Fm
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Eb
Bang bang, that awful sound
------C7
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.

Bridge;

Fm
Music played and people sang

Eb
Just for me the church bells rang

D-Dbsus2(alternating)--C7 (melodic fill using index and pinky finger while holding rest of the C7 chord (C-Db-Eb-Db-C)

Verse etc. repeats above

That's the great Billy Strange on the Fender guitar on the Nancy version...

Best concert I ever saw was was Frank Sinatra in the early 90's- Frank Jr conducted the orchestra and did an amazing job.
