Here's some pic's I took today at the NAMM show, mostly Fenders, except the last 2 pics, of Johnny Hiland playing some serious twang on a PRS, and the greatest "Living" Legend:

I didn't pick a single guitar up today, I was too afraid of losing my brand new camera if I did. I plan on playing a few tomorrow.

You'll have to click on the links, as the pics are too big for the site.

    RelicStrat...............

Great pictures! If you're taking requests ............ I'd love to see a full length picture of the Gretsch/Tele. That's one thing the forum hasn't seen yet.

    Name Change?

I think some where along the way NAMM changed its name (but not its acronym) to The International Music Products Association. Check out the NAMM Homepage

    Thanks for the info guys!

Another Q: Where is the current show located? Their homepage talks of Carlsbad in S. California...

Carlsbad.... Funny name. There's a city named Karlsbad in Germany too. ;)

    Wow!

Great products this NAMM! I also previewed them on the Fender site.

    http://www.fender.com/products/

The G-DEC practice amp (gotta have one), the 50s Esquire (oh, baby!), and the Areodyne Telecaster (sweet!), are among the great new offerings!

    Thanks for sharing the photos!

The show is in Anaheim (Orange County). Despite whatever the Angels are calling themselves these days it is not L.A.

Carlsbad is where the headquarters are located. Its about 60 miles south of Anaheim right near the ocean.

    Great pix BTW!

Fuzzyhead...like Bender said, the Winter NAMM is held in Anaheim, CA, right across the street from good old Disneyland.

NAMM - The "old definition" was "National Association of Music Merchants". The organization was....and is....centered around the retailer, not the manufacturer.

That's why it's not an open-to-the-public show. The idea is that the retailers attend, see products at manufacturer's booths and place orders. Martin, for example, used to do 100% of their year's business at the NAMM show excpet for special orders.

Nowdays 90% of the "business" end is done by Thursday night and Friday morning - that's when "buyers" (business owners and purchasing agents) are around and sitting at booth tables making deals. And the show isn't the "yearly" ordering center it used to be - things get spread out now over the year, and the show is more of a new-product intro and social thing.

Saturday and Sunday are primarily when the store counter-sales people get to go check things out, and when the "visitor" crowd shows up. It's a flippin' zoo on the weekend - the crowds are unreal. I went yesterday and doubt I'll go back today or tomorrow. Not worth fighting the crowds to laugh at 400 people in line to get an autographed picture of some guy who was once a bass player for the Slayer or some such BS....
