All of my favorite electric guitar players use a variety of guitars for different purposes. Players who use just one specific model (Telecaster, Les Paul, whatever) for 99% of their music tend to be working in styles and genres that don't really do it for me.

First one that comes to mind is Roy Buchanan.

I also appreciate Steve Cropper, Johnny Hiland, Tab Benoit, Vince Gill, and Keith Richards.

There's Muddy Waters, kind of iconic, but not in the same genre.

Tim Lerch and Ed Bickert are noteworthy for their use of a Tele for jazz.

Clapton did play one at one time, as did Jimmy Page, but I don't associate them with Teles.

Recently, I've been paying attention to Greg Koch, but he plays a variety of different guitars.

There is a huge difference between guitarists who have used Telecasters in their careers and guitarists who may have used other instruments, but have really made the Telecaster their instrument, such as Wilko Johnson, Sue Foley, Chrissie Hynde, Syd Barrett… honestly, at this rate, it can’t be long before someone says Jimi Hendrix is their favourite Telecaster player 🙂

I say if you can because I’m not sure I can. There’s Steve Cropper, Don Rich, Buck Owens, Pete Anderson, Ed Bickert, Albert Collins, and many others but I guess if I was to have to pick a favorite it would be Don Rich. I only recently in the last few years started getting into the Bakersfield country really heavy and came to love Don Rich but I will always be a Steve Cropper fan. See if you can name a favorite.
Don Rich for me...he was the one who made me want to play guitar. I hope I never forget the feeling when I walked into our little living room in the early 70s and the Buck Owens Ranch Show was on and there was this guy with this guitar playing such a cool song (Buckaroo of course), and he was so obviously having so much fun...pure joy. I love lots of other Tele pickers, but he'll always be #1 for me...thanks to him I've had over 50 years of joy in my life I may very well have missed out on.
