It’s hard to choose just one, so here’s a list as short as I can make it:

1. Julian Lage
2. Brent Mason
3. Danny Gatton
4. Kirk Fletcher (I know he’s not exclusively a Tele player. I don’t care)
5. Brad Paisley

Cornell Dupree

Jerry Reed for close second
I love Jerry Reed, but more so for his acoustic picking vs his electric stuff. Either way the man is one of the most gifted musicians to ever play an instrument, and a fine singer too. His playing has that soulful swagger that blurs the line between country and blues beautifully.

There are so many! Campilongo, Roy Buchanan, Lage, Frisell, Clarence White, Cousin Kenny, the incredible Ray Flacke...

The Great Ed Bickert!
Thanks for mentioning Ray!
Great, unique, sinewy (my term), clever player.
Ray and Albert Lee really inspired my country guitar playing when I was in my early 20’s.
Leave it to the Brits to show us how it’s done!

I love lots of options. my favs.. roy buchanan, prince., and jeff beck to name a few.. but here is my number one choice, and its an off beat one, tommy tedesco. He's way before my time but just listen to everything he played on with and without the wrecking crew.. so much great music, so many different styles, 1 damn tele!

Not having seen this man on this thread,

He and his band redirected rock and roll music in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

So much so that, at the time, Rolling Stone called them the only band that matters (of course take that for what you will).

He still contributed greatly to my musical upbringing. And he did it with mainly a telecaster.

I've spent my entire musical career trying to avoid be well thought of by mainstream publications like Time magazine.

So many great tele players it’s tough to pick just one but If had to the first that comes to mind is Jerry Donahue.

Not really adding anything new but +1 for Bobby Womack, Reggie Young and Jimmy Johnson. I kinda have tiers of favorites so in that top tier is definitely Cornell Dupree. I also know Tommy Cogbill played guitar on some of those tracks, so if he played a tele throw him in there. And then my second tier favorites are mainly just because they're less on the rnb side and it's guys like Keef, Glen Campbell and Roy Buchanan.

I just wanna say, how much I enjoy listening to Chuck Prophet. His playing suits the songs he writes and performs so well. The performer is whole, not just a pyrotechnician or otherworldly alien player.

You wouldn't want to eat steak, or the world's best fried chicken, or even raw oysters on the half shell, all day long every day of the year. The secret (imo) is an integrated style of play, which is part of a "balanced diet" of sorts. Asking about favorites is IMO asking for trouble.
