Beat me too it!
The Grateful Dead ... apparently a couple of AOR radio charted songs was all it took to become a cult sensation 40 yrs ago. I wonder if they'd ever make it in today's music industry.
Also: almost all of todays modern country. Rock n Roll with a cowboy hat...what's that all about?
Blessed are the slow, for they shall get it, eventually
Not a fan. Have nothing against him personally.
I agree that Paisely seems to try and showboat his guitar skills even when it doesn't fit the song, instead of tailoring his stuff to set a mood or idea. If the song is up tempo, it seems he will always do a measure or two as if to make a statement of skill.
Sometimes it isn't even musical. Its like the industry and him are making a conscious effort to sell him as country's answer to Hendrix-lol! Or certainly a guitar God.
The old guitar Gods just became that by accident during the course of playing the music they loved, not by some marketing initiative, or ego driven thing.
I love so many different types of music, there's very little I don't at least somewhat "get". But hip hop and rap are so transparently marketing to criminal cultures these days, its hard for me to like. I get it, but don't like singing about hoes, bitches and poppin caps. For some who make that their reality, I'm certain it's totally relevant.
Most pop music is just that, music to feed or create pop culture. What is pop culture these days? Sing to them and your music will be relevant, but not necessarily good.
Rap and hip hop exist because groups involved criminal teamwork are at an all time high.
So it's easy to "get" just not easy for everyone to like. So instead of using the word "get" which means to understand how someone can like it, this thread should just use the word "like". I guess get feels more politically correct, which also plays into todays pop culture.......go figure.
Hate it like cancer.
Def U2 and pearl jam takes the cake lol
Love the Dead and Phish. Guess you have to see it live to "get it."
I can't stand any big hair music from the 80's. Total cheese.
Yeah, I totally get and love these guys. As a Tele player, how could I not? I like Haggards' earlier stuff better than what he's put out lately. It seems that as an artist gets older their perspective changes and they write and sing only slow songs and ballads. Elvis did that, so did Johnny Cash, to name a few.
Never got UK punk, but i got where they were coming from.
They were very angry and frustrated.
Dont get Elvis Costello being inducted into R/R hall of fame. I think he had 1 hit.
HIs music is just ok.
If there ever was/is a band called Cargo Shorts....I don't get it.
Me too. **** on the radio. In each genre, they all sound the same.
Haggard to me is with Roy Nichols playin guitar, then I love it.
I'm 52 and just got into cargo shorts last year, now it's all I wear in the summer.
Perfect for my 52 year old body, they cover almost all the flesh and the pockets are everywhere - I love pockets and most of them are usually full, of everything but money-lol!
Alice In Chains
