    Paul Weller - The Jam
    Peter Townshend - The Who
    Steve Diggle - The Buzzcocks
Link Wray - Link Wray and the Wraymen
    Mick Jones - The Clash

I've also got to squeeze in:

Neil Finn - Crowded House/Split Enz

But since I used the word "squeeze" I am compelled to mention:

    Glenn Tilbrook

    Steve Ray V
    Steve Lukather
    Jimmy Page
    EVH
    Jeff Beck
    (Alex Lifeson)

Brian May is also worth mentioning, just didnt know where to put him on the list...he really is an influence in terms of "doubletracked lead guitar". That orchestra thing. The Echoplex guitar choir in "Brighton Rock". The guitar work on Liar and the Doing All Right solo. Stunning.

And JD Simo and JJN. Imo the best modern blues players.

When I was in high school, a jazz DJ in Portland loaned me a stack of jazz guitar records. That gave me a broader view of the playing field. I was also surrounded by jazz players on different instruments, leading to many convos over Coke and fries.

Anyway, I familiarized myself with different guitarists' approaches.

Probably at that time, I would list my most influential players as:

    Frank Zappa
    Larry Coryell
    Freddie Green
    Django
    Charlie Christian

    He's a massive influence on me. :)

I was listening to Bauhaus a lot when I started playing guitar in the 80's. I think the first thing I ever learned how to play is that intro to Lagartija Nick. :D .. and I can remember cranking my little practice amp and playing along to 'Dark Entries' off Press the Eject too.

Thinking about it now, I should have included Billy Duffy too.
