I’m starting to contemplate playing live by joining a band - it’s been well over a decade, so I wanted to pick something up that will keep up with a drummer (I hope). Found a used reissue of deluxe reverb. It’s a FSR in an all mahogany cab - supposedly only 50 made...don’t know if that’s a good thing or not hah Anyway, it’s got a Celestion blue alnico in it so I’m not sure if that speaker will stay, going to have to see how it sounds - if I don’t like it I’d imagine it’ll be an easy sell. I’ll be sure to post pictures when it arrives! I’ve had a regular DRRI in the past, so I’m curious to see what, if any, difference the mahogany cab will make.

I doubt you'll be able to hear the mahogany difference, but it sure will look sweet! IIRC, the Celestion blue is lower wattage and will likely break up early. There's lots of other good options for a DRRI. I put an EMi Allesandro SC-64 in mine and, talk about headroom, wow!

I've never seen one of these hog DDRIs, please post a picture when you get it.

That was worth the wait. And I’m just looking at a tiny picture on my phone.

    Congrats!

Beautiful amp! ( DR that looks like a D-18!)

If you are gonna gig with it, take it from someone that gigged with a '67 Pro Reverb in just its natural pine cab ( when I got it the Tolex was curling up, so I stripped it off/refinished)

get a cover for it when transporting!

I got lax about this with my amp ( many years ago) and cab got really dinged up and dented

This one blends in great with my 000-18 and my Hummingbird - love hogs!

yeah I figured I’d need to keep it covered whenever I move it, it’s too nice to get it messed up!

It’s funny, I had a DRRI about three years ago and didn’t bond with it because it always felt so stiff to me. In retrospect, I don’t think I had a speaker in it that was for me. I went through some other amps, even had a PRRI that I loved but I’ve always missed the full sound from a larger cab. This amp with the blue alnico really hits the spot for me!

How does the mahogany cab affect the weight?

    Follow up too,
Are these solid mahogany panels or laminate/ veneers?
This sure looks sweet- not unnatural or out'of-place, to the original design, like (IMO) we see on some other guitar/amp cosmetic treatments

Wow, that is beautiful. I am also a de-Tolex-er (Princeton Reverb II), and I love wood cab amps.

If that’s veneer or laminate, I want to know how they managed the box-jointing!

Was just wondering as any solid mahogany slabs ( say for acoustic or electric bodies) seem to be pretty expensive.

But all this is making me miss my DR I needed to sell ( dang it!)

So, how'd you go about that? Peeled off the tolex and stained the wood? Any sanding or other treatment? I've always liked the look of wood amp cabs.
