I can't put it into words, but there was something in the TMDR that left me wanting. Lucky for me those still get very good trade in.

I bought this great Orange Rocker 15. 15 watts, (no reverb). It's a loud, rude little amp that sounds huge when paired with an extension cab. Yes, it's all tube.

Those 2 amps have very different midrange EQ curves available to the player. Glad you found something that works better for you. For as ubiquitous as they are, black- and silverface Fenders are not everyone's idea of great tone.

Different strokes for different folks. I felt the same way with my 65’ deluxe reverb until I played the 64’ deluxe. Now I couldn’t be happier.

It’s such a great amp. The dirt channel is pure Rock and Roll. I can go from The Stones to Sabbath (with a treble booster on the latter). The Natural channel is also quite something. It has no eq, it’s just pure tube tone. It really showcases the base sound of any guitar I play through it. And it takes fuzz/distortion pedals so well. The tube driven fx loop is top-notch for modulation pedals. My first Orange was a Tiny Terror and the Rocker is a significant improvement.

I actually have never once played an Orange. Do they have a characteristic sound? They always seem to have the word “terror” in the name, which makes me think they are high-gain. Of course I have no idea and might be totally wrong....

Kind of a Brit high gain? It's the only amp I've ever played that sounds angry.

I think if I needed something more aggressive I would look at the Orange. From what I understand it has 15, 7, 1 and 0.5 watt settings. Then again, I rarely use much gain.

Looks like a fun and portable amp, good features!

Never played an Orange, but curious someday to try ( or buy!) the SS Orange Crush 35RT, add to small gigs/small amps collection

Ooh, ooh! I see they have it in black covering too. I've never been a fan of the right orange. It's a little too over the top for me plus some of my most hated teams wear orange.

The ‘Headroom/Bedroom’ feature on some Orange amps is a boon to home players who want tamer volume levels at home or even smaller gigs. Still loud, though. Even at 1W, my R15T can shake the walls and irritate those around me.

That said, I don’t think anyone bought an Orange for its clean tones.

The "Orange Sound" is gainy, british style rock. Marshalls tend to be bright amps with emphasized upper midrange (in general- I know there are a billion different Marshalls), while Oranges are "warmer" on the high end with emphasis on the lower midrange. They tend to sound fuller and ballsier than Marhsalls, but a little fuzzier and without the midrange bite. Some Oranges have clean channels, but really they're kind of an afterthought- the main attraction is dirty rock sounds. When I got my Rockerverb I kept trying to make it sound like a Marshall before I realized duh, it isn't. They have a unique, very cool sound.

Gosh no. It's does dirt really well. The amp drive is really good, and (with some tweaking) it took my overdrive pedals good too. But I don't "need" to use drive pedals, it gets really filthy on it's own.

I think the black Orange's look classy!
( but if I had an Orange, it would probably be orange)

I found that by boosting the right frequencies, my R15T can get to some Marshall-y goodness. Shaving the woof or sharpening the point is where it’s at. When I run it at high gain with my Bad Monkey in front, I get to JCM800 territory, more Ride The Lightning than Kerry King. With a Rangemaster clone in front, I’m hearing some classic Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. And when this isn’t enough, my Friedman BE-OD on the Natural channel gets wonderfully brutal. IMO, Orange can get to ‘Marshall’, but I’m not sure about the reverse.

Being a clean player my Katana is nice. I don't have any major complaints.

But when I plug into my Fender Super Champ X2 head and a separate 12" speaker cabinet,
Or into my Mesa Fillmore 25 head into the same cabinet,
The warmth and dynamic expression for both amps are fantastic. (Even though the champ is a hybrid digital/ tube).
