it’s a 10” black shadow speaker
it does have the half power jack in the back.
As well as being built, they are also useful for removing paint, and wallpaper from your interior walls...
it’s definitely loud enough. Lol. It would have no problems handling a small room type of gig.
Those are great little amps. Have fun.
Used to have one of these and had very mixed feelings about it. The thought of a cute little EL84 Boogie with a 10" speaker really appealed to me but in reality it never delivered. Too loud for home noodlings (for me anyway) and although it was certainly loud enough for a small pub gig it didn't sound great and I only used it this way a couple of times. Would probably be a decent amp for somewhere in the middle of these scenarios such as a low key rehearsal.
It eventually got relegated to backup amp and was only called into action once when my bass player's Ampeg head died. Hooked up through his cab the amp actually did a great job and got us through the night!
I know what you mean - A comfortable 'bedroom amp' volume is going to be a lot lower in the UK than the US - we have much smaller homes to be able play 'loud'. I have a Laney Cub 8 (5watt valve amp) which has spend most of its life in the cupboard - it's too loud (. My Blackstar Fly 3 is fine for me...
The 5:25 Express 110 is the successor to these. They're brilliant. I had one and stupidly let it go.
Just remember with the EQ set volume you want, back off mid and bass, adjust treble up to taste, then mids then bass.
The way mesa's eqs works is the treble is like a second volume, if it's too high you will never get mids and bass low enough to avoid mud and/or harshness.
I have a 5:25+ as well. It’s a brilliant amp. I kinda bought this one on a whim. I like it though. It kinda has its own thing going on. I only gave $425 US for it. I was considering a Blues Jr. then I saw this.
Simple is good.
That's a bargain. Very easy to dial Blackface-ish tones and gorgeous reverb for such a short tank.
And the switchable modes make it so easy to get classic or modern sounds. Plus that contour control for singing leads!
