First impressions, 3 12ax7 preamp , 2 el84 power section. It has a vox flavoring to it.well built/solid. I hate to say this but this amp out of the box sounds at least as good if not better than my fromel modded Blues Jr with a vintage30. I will disassemble it and find it’s weaknesses lol. I’ll take more pic of it’s guts too.
Congrats. Great amp for the money. You'll find no shortage of suggestions and opinions about the amp. Huge thread here http://www.tdpri.com/threads/monoprice-15-watt-tube-amp.609524/
I recently got one and have yet to swap the speaker, not sure I will. I ran a set of JJ power tubes but didn't hear as big of a change from the stock tubes as swapping an old RCA 12Ax7 into V3. Obviously swaps on V1 an V2 will make a difference too.
How loud does it get in 1 watt mode?
I have an older 5w Monoprice and it is loud enough to annoy my wife when she's catching up on Real Housewives.
1 watt is loud enough to people nearby in the house but it's much quieter than 15 watt mode.
Please arrange for these to be exported to the UK sans import tax/tarrifs
I don't hear that much difference in mine volume-wise. It just breaks a up sooner on the <1 watt setting (mine's the Monoprice 15 with the knobs on top bought about 15 months ago).
Yes it is loud. I’m gonna take it to rehearsal and see show it does
I’m still loving this amp I did swap the speaker for a Celestion v type and swapped the the reverb pan for a mod 8bb2c1b. Not that it needed it but had both lying around so I did it. Even better now especially the reverb!
did it keep up with an acoustic drum set?
Haven’t taken it out yet . But it’s louder than my modded blues junior. Also has a much tighter bottom end. Kind of a cross between the blues jr and an AC15

25% today, but on purchases of 350 or more (or was it 300??)
Buy a Chinese 'Sub Zero' amp from Gear4Music. It's the same, and just as cheap.
I had one of these, but went through a rash of amp buying. The guy I sold it to got it home and called and said it makes a snare sound at the end of a strummed chord (I offered to take it back, but he refused to bring it, and I also offered to pay for him to take it to a tech to have it looked at - and he's refusing anything there, too. Figure it might've taken a bump on a car ride, or maybe it did that before and I didn't notice because i"m not playing out).
Otherwise, I really loved the amp - for $170 or whatever it is right now, you get an amp that has good cleans, good reverb, and a legitimately excellent gain built in that doesn't sound cheap at all (to be honest, the gain is a better quality gain than almost any OD or OD/distortion pedal I've ever gotten). It's legit.
They're not the same. Subzero are made ( poorly ) by Belcat. The Monoprice 5 Watt is closely based on the Laney Cub 8, the Monoprice 15 Watt is based very closely on the Laney Cub 12. Whoever Monoprice are using, it's likely the same OEM as Laney. Same schematic, same Ventech transformers that Laney have been using for years.
The 5 and 10 Watt Belcat are an odd hybrid design. The 20 Watt is a Blues Junior clone with missing fuses and who knows about the 50 Watt other than they turn up regularly on Ebay as 'seconds'
The Belcat/Subzero are sub-par. The advice I got from a member of staff was to buy something else, anything else.
Rat Amps took one apart and it doesn't make for pleasant viewing. I made a mistake and bought the 5 Watt. The chassis and headshell will eventually be used for a home brew. Cheaply made and electrically unpleasant.
Belcat/SubZero cabs are quite good though, credit where it's due.
