So I finally pulled the trigger on a Tweed Deluxe. I was always a blackface guy. Currently own a PRRI, a DRRI and a 70s silverface Twin.
When the world shut down and the gigs stopped, I started messing around using two amps at once. It was kind of a revelation. This led me to find a tweed champ. Bought one from Winfield Amps. I bought it directly from Winnie (who I think posts here under the name Zook.) It was a one off he did, not one of his usual product lines. It was/is amazing. Pairing that with my Princeton is glorious. Mike Campbell inspired heaven. Got a bigger cab made and added a really efficient 10" speaker and it could keep up with the princeton. Have been using that set up now that gigs have started again. Just awesome!

That led me to want to try a slightly bigger tweed. One that I could use on it's own. Our drummer being really good about dynamics, I knew a tweed would be enough, size wise. Looked at a bunch of different 5e3's and finally found a Winfield Brat. Arrived yesterday and I couldn't be happier. The 14 watts is plenty. And his spin on the tweed deluxe is absolutely brilliant. It has a Bassman preamp section into a deluxe power amp section. This totally fixes what IMO are the flaws of the deluxe circuit. More tonal control with the treble, mid, bass controls. The volume has a much more usable sweep. Instead of jumping straight up in volume and then just getting dirtier as you go up, this has a lot more subtle sweep. Begins to break up between 11 and 1 o'clock depending on the guitar pickups.

So all in all, happy I made the leap into the tweed world. Love this amp! She's real nice looking to boot!

    ***Update Edit***
Decided I would like to try this with a 12" speaker. Winfield sells both versions, but this came with a 10". Contacted Winnie and he graciously agreed to modify the existing baffle for a 12". Have a few different speakers laying around. Going to try the Eminence Private Jack to start with.

    Beautiful amp
    It's missing three inputs, though?

Using two slightly different amps together sounds amazing.
I run a 68 Custom PR (with a Greenback) and a tweed Blues Jr. together.
My favorite out of the three amps I have.

Winfield makes awesome amps. I love the Cyclone, so I’m sure yours is of high quality, too. I may have been eyeing that same one if you bought it on Reverb (went with a Savage Macht instead).

Yes, "modified" bassman preamp, I should say. And honestly one is all it needs, for me at least.

Yep, he sure does! And yeah, this was the one listed on Reverb. Thanks for going with the Savage and saving this for me! Lol

The ability to mix the two channels is part of the Deluxe sound, though.
    Nice amp....enjoy.

Been busy the last few days, but wanted to update the post. Winnie enlarged the existing baffle and put the 12" speaker in there. Had a good chance let er rip today, and oh man, she's a keeper. Really like the Eminence Private Jack in there. Super efficient speaker at 101db. The sweet spot where it really opens up is perfect volume for gigs. Couldn't be happier! Can't recommend Winfield Amps enough!

Better late than never to the tweed party....... I'm kinda the opposite of you. I only have tweed amps currently so I'd like to ass a Black panel Princeton to do the Mike Campbell thing.
