My fiancee and I cleaned out her grandmother's garage/music studio over the summer, because seeing it in disrepair has been stressing out the nice lady. She told us that as long as we let her look at it before we take it home, "Anything you guys want in there is yours." And then in the back, I found this, and she told me she wanted me to have it.

Took it home and fired it up, and wasn't getting any sound. Figured it had sat for 10 years, it was due for a checkup. Brought it to a music shop that I like and got it checked out. Some money changed hands, some parts were replaced and new tubes installed, and now I'm the newest owner of this fully working Marshall JCM 900!

Cool, those are kind of underrated amps. I remember it was a "house amp" at my old's band rehearsal space. I ran pedals through the clean channel which sounded quite nice.

    Nice score.

Good works sometimes result in good news.
Thanks for sharing your good news.

It sounds very Pollyanna, or Sunday school teacher(which, funny story, I am), but the best part of this(besides dreaming about pairing it up with the oversized 412 Acoustic cab we found in there to do my best Mick Ronson impression) was bringing a video back to my partner's grandmother of me jamming a Les Paul through it at the shop so she could see it was working, and watching her beam. She loved her son, and that his gear is in hands that aren't going to just flip them for a quick buck and that will keep it in good repair clearly brings her a lot of joy.

It was sitting atop a Laney 412; there's also an old Acoustic oversized 412(that's going to go live with my drummer because where else should it live but where we practice?) and I want to try it through both.

Ooooooh... is that a 4100? It’s a 4100 isn’t it? That is one absolutely amazing amp. One of my top three favorite amps of all time is the 2x12 combo version of that. The 4102.

You sir, are a very lucky man.

. . . and I think Ronno would not only understand, but I'm sure he'd be smiling down at the happy news. . .

I mean I know to really cop the vibe I'd need a '70s Marshall, and an LP, and to be that talented, but dammit I'm gonna try! ;)

Pretty dang cool that your future granma-in-law had a Marshall hanging out in her garage. I'd offer to clean out the basement next.

I was a stagehand when Ronson and Ian Hunter came through the city I lived in at the time, on the YUIORTA tour. He was actually using a 900 then, and a Tele with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickup in the bridge. I don't remember the particular 900 model, and it's a different sound than the Bowie days, but you're closer than you think to at least one era of the Ronson sound!

I'm marrying into a very musical family. Grandma was always a singer and a pianist, still is even in her nineties; my fiancee(wedding is this week!) is a trained singer, also a jazz drummer and a pianist. Her two sons(my partner's father and uncle) were both guitarists that have now passed away. My brother-in-law can play guitar, though he hasn't in a few years. It's just an ingrained part of the family.

Awesome story! Congrats - one of my all time favorite amps, as well.

The basement's full of spiders, so...

Honestly though any music stuff would have been out in that garage.

I had a moment where I was like, "Yeah I like it but I don't love it" but the more I'm playing around with it the more I really want to pop it into a proper 212 cabinet and let it rip. I think it's a keeper.

That is a Md. 4100 High Gain Dual Reverb, which is very much a hybrid amp in that much of the preamp work is done in the solid state domain. Nice gift, though.
