    because I only have 1;).
Musician’s Friend SDOD a week ago. Normally $399, slashed to $149. Two 12ax7 in preamp and a 12au7 in power. I’ve not seen much Randall love on here but this thing is working for me. Scratches a primal itch. I have dimed this thing through that G12M in the Peavey cabinet and it’s a pretty incredible watt in the beast.

Is there a function/button between the Gain and Tone knobs on that panel?
    Or just a graphic?

It’s a three-way switch called “TSS” for tone stack switch. Center position is neutral, left is mid boost, right is mid scoop.

    Congratulations.

You've done everything right. This amp has a killer sound. I recommend this bad boy to anybody, except for clean sounds.

It uses a 12au7 as an output tube, for 1 watt?

Do the two triodes in the 12au7 each function as one half of a push-pull output stage pair? (Not a tube amp wizard, here).

I remember reading that the Vox Valvetronix amps used a preamp tube as a tiny power tube, to simulate power tube characteristics...but then passed the conditioned signal on to a solid state power section to actually drive the speakers.

Ya know, it’s really got a decent clean sound imo if you max the volume and have the gain really low.

The ECC82/12AU7 pushes a lot of current and has lower gain, compared to its siblings. The craze for using it as an output tube was very much triggered by Doug Hammond's Firefly. Doug configured it as self-split, sacrificing some gain in exchange for not needing a phase inverter. I don't know how the Randall is set up.

Other double triodes that can be used in similar ways for about 1W up to 3.5W are E182CC, 12BH7 and JJ's ECC99. Oh, and the Russian 6N6P.
