As detailed in a previous post seeking advice, https://www.tdpri.com/threads/advice-sf-champ-vs-prri.1040549/ , I recently picked up a really clean 1975 Champ. Towards the end of that thread I'd decided NOT to go after a Champ but to just hang on and enjoy the amps I had. Well, a few days later I accidentally opened up Facebook Marketplace and a fella 15 minutes up the road from me had a nice one for sale, too. Clean, and easy to check out. So it seemed like kismet.

Wow! This little amp sounds better than I anticipated! Superb cleans, which is all I was after. One added benefit of picking up the Champ was it gave me an excuse to research Reverb pedals! Boss RV-6 is on the way from Sweetwater...

Considering how wishy washy I was leading up to the purchase, I walked out of there without an ounce of buyer's remorse, just a big grin on my face!

Wow. Super clean! No reason to ever part with it. Small enough to take and play anywhere. Fits in a bedroom, and sounds good at low volume. Cheap and easy to maintain and repair.

Sounds amazing clean. Sounds amazing with almost any pedal. That's been my experience.

That's one amp that will not need the casters . . . .

    Enjoy!

Wow, what a beauty!!! That's a happy ending -- and heh, I recall your thread and was kinda rooting for the Champ.

IIRC you wanted an amp that would last you for years and could be repaired. Score! But now somebody's bound to ask you when was it last serviced, especially the cap can, bias, and bypass caps. By a handy coincidence, all of us would love to see some gut shots which (if you can get the cap can itself in focus) may answer the question.

It was all recently serviced and recapped! The guy I bought it from had a ton of pristine gear. He purchased this one in a deal with a Twin, but as he already had a Champ, he was willing to part with this one.

That is a clean champ. Congats. You will not regret your decision. I put my Flint in front of it and play all day.

Right. A pair of them don't hurt, believe me!

I use one of my Champs most days. Always have one set up with a small board that I can switch on and spend 20 minutes or 2 hours with. Also great for small jams working stuff out or just having fun. Properly tuned with upgraded speaker, nothing in it's class can touch it. Nevermind the nay-sayers if it works well for your needs.

Glad you finally pulled the trigger. You won't regret it. Very clean! Enjoy!!

For quite a while I paired mine with a Sonicake Twiggy Blues pedal that contains 4 different modules, including a nice mellow reverb. I ended up using a Fender FR-1000 stand-alone spring reverb.

Congrats! I love me some champs. My real ones are from '64, '65, and '77. All sound different and love them all!

I was once playing my Champ through an old 2x10 cabinet at a buddies house set up next to his DrZ. He wasn't looking and thought that I was playing through his amp, nope it was the Champ/2x10. Fooled him, sounded great.

This seems to be a common finding. Manufacturers mate an amplifier to a particular combo cabinet with marketing in mind. Smaller price point deserves a smaller cabinet and speaker than higher price points. Unfortunately, Leo and other manufacturers didn't seem to spend allotta time matching cabs to the amps for optimum tone. They designed the combo amp for portability and versatility. A small amp almost always sounds much better played through an upsized cabinet and speaker.

Congratulations! Since I recently put a new filter can in my old 69 Champ I've been playing it every day. Have a delay and tremolo pedal in front of it, and it's awesome. By the way try turning the EQs down to one and see how you like that, if you have a bright guitar. That's how I'm using mine right now, my JV Strat is pretty bright and it really sounds great that way.
