I've been eyeing this 1965 Deluxe locally and took it home today. Other than the Eminence speaker swap it's all there. The speaker doesn't sound bad at all.
This is from June '65. The panels are post CBS, but the tube chart 8s pre CBS, a true transitional model.
It sounds great direct but takes pedals extremely well too.

    A very good find, there.
Mine has an unfortunate (but handy) mod - the previous owner added a reverb tank (wth?)
And placed the reverb dial smack-dab in the middle of that beautiful logo - so sweet to see it un-molested.
    Enjoy it man
    Peace - Deeve

Super nice. If it's home use/low volume it's worth digging up an original Jensen, Oxford period speaker IMO.

If the Emi speaker sounds good, it would be a better choice than any Oxford.

    Mine is great. I prefer Celestions like a G12H30 or a 35xc.

Can you look on the back of the chassis for a faintly etched ssn? Maybe near the serial number? In the summer of 79 I bought a deluxe with a replacement eminence from a peavey. It was sold as pre cbs but someone later pointed out that the faceplate was cbs. It also had a knot in the pine inside the cabinet. It almost has to be the same amp. Best. Amp. Ever

Nice score! My friend has a '64 with a ceramic Weber Blue Dog 30 watt in it. It's a great sounding amp and that speaker just works well with the circuit.

I just ran downstairs and checked. I don't see any SSN etched in the back panel. I hoped there was, I love stories like that.

It has to be the same amp. The ssn was really light. I lived in a college dorm and they came around and marked things with a pencil type engraver. I don't remember for sure where they marked it but the back panel was still on it at that time. I regretfully traded it around 82 or 83 to a vintage dealer in iowa. It had a great clean, warm sound.

I suppose that L03702 doesn't count since it looks stamped, not etched.

These are wonderful amps. I've got one from 1963, I'd never part with it.

I used to have an early '65 Deluxe-Amp. Wish I still did!

The stock speaker sounded amazing (Oxford 12K6-5). But it wasn't loud enough for my needs at the time. I tried several others, but never found the "one."

My main gigger, (when I had gigs) Sold my BFDR and kept my 65 Deluxe. Best tone ever. Perfect with an Emi GA SC65 or Weber 12F150 50w

Disagree. Strongly. This was before the Oxford 12"s had changes made to their design (voice coil gap). The 12"s were great speakers back then.
