My guess is this is as close to a vintage instrument as you can get in 2012 on a new guitar.

All the attention to all the small details takes extra time.

Time=$$$$

4.5k is alot but when you add up all the time it takes to make one of these Id say thats a more than fair price.

Yeah, it's a lot less than 30-80k!;)

My guess is that Nacho's guitars are of an averagely higher quality than the old ones ...

Very cool video!

Do my kids really NEED to go to college? I'm afraid so. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get one but it would be nice!

Not to knock his abilities or craftsmanship, but I can't imagine paying someone - and as we all know, labour is a HUGE part of any guitar build, especially relicing - to beat up my guitar!! I want my guitars to show their own history, not a faked history. Besides, I'd feel kind of stupid if someone said "Wow! What a cool old guitar! I bet it has seen some amazing moments! If it could only speak, right?" and I had to respond with, "Uh, well, it's actually been artificially aged." For me it would be like owning a kit car rather than the original.

Again, to each his own. I'm sure it'll bring you many hours of joy! :)

Neither could I. But I have paid someone to create an authentic aged finish and it's my favourite guitar, a favourite of many other guitarist (my son and daughter have had an argument about who's getting it when I die ) and it has received many, many favourable comments. Mainly about the tone but some about the finish.

Unfortunately the term relicing has become syonymous with "beating up" a guitar (type in relic into eBay; but have a vomit back close by) and you'll see why.

I don't know exactly what techniques Nacho uses but I can assure you that no part of the process involves "beating up" any part of the guitar.

I guess that opens up the floodgates for the naysayers and "relic heating experts".

Here we go.

Not all natural relics are great guitars but you can be certain that all Nachocasters are. Pay £20K for a 1953 Whatevercaster that is average sounding / feeling or a lot less for one that looks identical but sounds and feels the way it should. I know where my money would go.
Bill Hullett knows a thing or two ;) about the originals so for him to praise this work as he does speaks volumes.

I may get flamed away here but I am not digging that guitar too much and I love relics. The guitar sounds great, body looks great and the beginning of the neck - I bet it feels amazing too, but the wear on the frets from 12 fret up, especially on the very end frets looks flunky to me  I have the Blackguard book, my most favorite book in the world lots of respect for Nacho, but I dont see any guitar with a wear pattern like that. It dosent seem vaguley believable that you could wear the fret board out there like that, it seems backwards, as if it was played left handed.

I've played Bill's.

It is a great guitar.

Of course, I can leave any guitar in a stand around my house, and in a matter of months "Housekeeping" will relic it for me. ;)

I may have to start saving my pennies.

I'm not a hater of, nor a huge relic fan, but I do wonder what a guitar with that much wear looks like in 20-30 years if it's actually taken out and gigged as opposed to hung on a wall and noodled with once in a while.

It'll be interesting to see, you know if I live that long. :D

I was in Valencia last week, on holiday with my girlfried, and we passed by Nacho's shop. I knew about the store, I just didn't know iy was in Valencia, imagine my surprise.

There was one of these on the wall, and two aged 50's style strats too. I didn't play any of them. I can see why people love these, and with Nacho knowing his guitars the way he does, they can't possibly be bad instruments and are probably great, but for my personal taste, they looked a little too beat up. But to each his own - I'm not a fan of articially aged guitars, but I can see how a lot of people are.
