I finally decided to go with the Schecter PT Special. I've been a little skeptical of the brand since they tend to favor the heavy metal type players (no offence, just not my style), but SW has a great return policy, so what the heck.
And I have to say that I'm glad I did. The guitar's overall quality was quite a surprise. It seems to be the best of Fender meets Gibson. Primarily the neck, which is a Fender profile mated to a Gibson fingerboard. Unique in my collection at least. The P90 at the neck seems to be wound with the single coil at the bridge in mind. Ballancing the two against each other gave me nothing but exceptional tones, both rythem and lead.
The body adds the Strat's sculptering without really affecting the Teles classic shape. And the finish on that body has to be seen, and felt, to be beleived. The finish on the swamp ash body is only listed as "gloss", but I've never encountered a gloss finish in this thin of an application. This guitar's resonance is second only to my AV68 Thinline, yeilding a natural sustain, both acoustically and plugged in, that's comparable to a Les Paul.
Plugged into my Vibrolux, it's a Tele with an attitude that I can work with all night long. I'm finding that it adds a new dimention to stuff like Mellencamp, Lone Star, even some of Petty's stuff.
So unless it somehow falls apart in the next 30 day, it's a keeper.
This is really something to think about if you want add a little P90 muscle to your Tele sound

Schecter has been around a long time, I'm thinking since at least the 70s. I remember seeing a schecter ad in a guitar magazine with Lou Reed in it.

Schecters are awesome. You do tend to see more of their "metal" guitars than anything else, but they have lots of cool "retro"-styled models, as well.

I'm willing to bet their metal guitars are pretty fantastic, as well.

I got the black model. But, after a recent theft of four guitars, I was asked by the police not to post photos on any public forum. And I'm just not up to another episode like I just went through. I'm sure that if any of you have been in a similar situatuation you understand my paranoia.
Also, I might mention that the Sweetwater site has some very detailed shots of this model.
