You got a great deal jhundt, I bought mine off C/L 3 or 4 years ago. The guy wanted $175.00 so I thought it was a great deal on a reissue. When I got to the guys house I realized it was an old one. I gave him two $100.00 dollar bills. He told me he didn't have change and I said that's OK. He knew what it was worth but wanted it to go to someone who would use it.
    Thanks John

I've seen a factory schematic...or was it a layout?...for the CBS one and it didn't say 6G15 on it, nor does it say it on the unit. I'll post some pics later.

I keep hoping somebody famous discovers some magic in them and makes mine valuable...they are extremely rare.

    Blackface and Silverface.
The dimensions are the same, but the similarities start to fade there.
On the SF, the tubes are angled for some unknown reason and, if you move the lever out and allow the pan to float too much, it will hit the output tube.
I added the tube retainer because the tube sockets are made from a strange alloy if tin and cheddar that has no spring to it and doesn't hold the tube in on its own.
    Notice the extra tube.
Also, the BF has foam behind the pan...I assume this is original.
If you push the lever in, the springs push into the foam and there is no verb.
It doesn't appear that there was ever any foam on the SF so, even when the lever is pushed all the way in and the tank is fixed, the pan is free to move inside, as with the tank in the back of your amp.
I made a little lever that goes through existing holes in the tank that, when flipped, immobilizes the pan so it's not clanging around in the back of the van driving me nuts and self-destructing.
    I'm looking forward to finding some time to A/B these. DSCN0003 (1).JPG DSCN0005.JPG DSCN0004 (1).JPG DSCN0006.JPG

I am wondering how do they differ soundwise from the reissue ones from Fender...

The reissue sounds a bit harsh to my ears. I understand that a 6K6 and re-bias fixes this, but I haven't done it.

And here I thought you bought 15 $6,000 guitars. Nice reverb unit.

I have a ‘63 tank and a true NOS ‘78 tank. It was in its original box with old ass styrofoam and everything is perfect, it even had thehang tag!

The ‘63 is harsh a bright and noisy, perfect for surf. Lots of drips - especially through a brown Showman + 15” tone ring cab.

The silverface is a very dark reverb, super dark. Not bright and no drips. It’s almost like plate reverb, just soooo dark and cool. I have no use for it in the surf band, but it’s so cool I’m sure I’m eventually find a use for it.

Heh, I’m at work so I can’t go take pix. I actually had a blonde / oxblood cab made for the ‘63, so now my big Showman stack all matches.

But don’t worry, I also have a ‘64 that has its original cab!

I also have two Surfy Bear pedals.

Actually, check out the stack behind me! The ‘63 is atop the stack.

We’re kind of a whole performance art hobby band, so yes I need those amps! One is wet, one is dry.

The only way that pic could be more surfy is if Dick Dale was in it !

Sea foam Jaguar and Jazzmaster . Two blonde heads. Two BIG blonde cabs with JBL’s. Blonde reverb unit. Palm tree back drop with matching shirt.

    Very cool !
