Hey guys, hope you're all well.

So I came across this thing for sale locally... The price is too good to be true with something that has a "Custom Shop" label. Wondering if anyone can help identify this thing... or if it's a complete fake..?

There is an extra toggle switch between volume and tone aside from that I can't make much out from the pics - any help appreciated, I'd love to hear it all!

    Cheers!
    Ben

No real Fender has a truss rod access area that looks like that. FAKE!!!!

2 string trees would worry me, but depends on what it's actually described as, being (supposedly) Custom ?

heck - if it's not priced like a CS strat, and more like a partscaster, I'd check it for feel and sound w/o concern that it's not genuine
    YMMV

Did Fender/Squier ever Paint the back side of the body all black on a Sunburst Strat guitar?

Yep, if it's a decent partscaster and priced accordingly then it's all good.

The fact that some numpty has put a Fender decal on it doesn't increase it's value.

And if I bought it I'd take the decal off, coz it's disengenuous at the very least.

The back is painted solid black to hide that it's a plywood body with a veneer on the front. A common practice on budget guitars.

It might be a decent guitar, but it's not a Fender product.

I’m not getting the skunk stripe on the back of the neck along with the top access at the headstock. Can you get close-up pictures of the pick ups? From here they look like those shiny magnet cheapies.
Also what’s up with what’s going on where your right arm would be is that a reflection I am seeing or is that some kind of weird stain goings-on? If so that’s not exactly custom shop but I would say at this point even looking at the bridge pieces the saddles look like the overseas stuff and the chrome looks too shiny but I fully admit I can’t see clearly. also the wood grain on the fretboard looks like crap and definitely not custom shop choice of wood. I can’t think of any skunk stripe that also has an adjustment at the top, The skunk stripe is there because it adjusts at the heel, Under the pickguard

My American Standard and lone star have skunk stripes and the headstock truss rod adjustment. Looks like an American style neck, late 80s or after, maybe really was from a CS strat but put on a cheap body.

No walnut plug on TR access. NO offset on backplate screws. See both of those on old and new Squiers. Neck heel on posterior pic shows round, Maybe old MI India. Bridge saddles also look Squier. Value= $80-100

The toggle switch is probably the 7way mod ala David Gilmour to activate the neck with bridge or bridge/middle/neck

The pickguard shape is neither Fender nor Squier.
