Mysterious Solder Lug

    Under the volume and tone controls of this Highway One Tele is this solder lug screwed into the wood with one of the ground wires soldered to it. What the heck? I could see it being used as a common tie point but there's only one wire.

    That's most likely the wire that grounds the bridge. I'm assuming that the cavity is coated with conductive paint. If the pots don't have a ground wire connecting them, it's because they are grounded to the paint.

    The black paint is conductive, and is there for shielding. The lug bonds the conductive paint to the rest of the guitar's grounds.
