I just saw all the wife threads and almost wondered if I'm just lucky. My wife encourages me to play and compliments my progress. She buys me gear and encourages me to do the same. She loves that playing makes me happy.

I know I'm a lucky man, but surely I'm not the only one?

Me too. Even though we can get cross. The fact is, Mrs moved many mountains in 43.5yrs. We are a long way from where we started.

This year, I have acquired a new Godin Metropolis QIT and a mint 2013 MIJ '52RI Tele. Both ended up in my hands after my wonderful missus said, 'Life is short, may as well get them'. This morning I said that I was going to look at a Marshall, and she said, 'Oh, you're getting an amp.'

Life is short, a good partner makes it better.

I've enjoyed the wife threads. I could see I'm not alone with efforts to work at an intact family and treasure someone so much.

I'm sorry for those who've had relationships where it's not worked out, and I confess that it's constant work. I take it day by day hoping the efforts continue. There was enough of my life where I never thought I'd be married or have a decent relationship so it can seem crazy to adore and treasure my wife so much at 32 years and counting.

My wife's not just been my supporter in important ways. She's been a superb team mate for having 3 kids who are making good decisions. For that back seat driver thread, my wife's is tremendous behind the wheel and outstanding when it comes to steering kids and dads.

My wife and I play in 3 bands together, and in spite of the humorous jabs(she gives as good as she takes, after putting herself through uni by working in several bars), we support each other as best we can.

My wife, the bass player, gives me full support in my guitar playing and acquisitions ... but not my singing.

Anyway, if it was not for her prodding me, I would have not spent the bucks to buy the incredibly over budget National Resonator that is amazing. I am done with my GAS, but she is not, so I encourage her to continue her musical adventure in every way possible. We are both board members of our county arts council and volunteer often in the performing arts arena, which unfortunately is not happening right now.:(

I had no idea wives buying guitars for their husbands was so common.

My wife has never bought me one, but she supports that it’s my hobby and it’s never been a problem, even though I cycle through them an excessive amount even by my own admission.

My wife plays piano, bass & violin. I play the guitar. She more than supports my playing. We are truly blessed.

She asked which one to buy. She knows that she'd never be able to pick one out for me, not blindly.

My wife doesn’t know a Stratocaster from a Les Paul. Literally. But she sees the joy that playing and buying and trading guitars gives me, so she supports it and under the circumstances, it’s always nice to get the occasional golf clap when I do well.

My wife bought me my Casino for Christmas 4 years ago. Has no complaints if I buy a piece of gear.

I also never give her any grief when she buys anything for herself.

My wife and I have plenty of differences but she’s my biggest fan and supporter when it comes to guitar, absolutely.

My wife negotiates the prices on my guitar purchases. She ends every negotiation with “he’s gonna need a new set of strings thrown in. There’s no telling how old the strings on this guitar are. Do you have any Ernie Ball 10’s?” She and other family members give me cash for holidays and when I want something she goes with me to get it.

All my inexpensive guitars were purchased by me.

All my expensive guitars and Custom Shop models were chosen, ordered, and purchased by Mrs. Steerforth. She’s a very talented, multi-instrument musician herself, and she knows enough about guitars to make wise choices. She has very good taste.

Very often when I’m sitting around reading or something, she’ll go get one of my guitars and bring it to me and order me to, “Play!” I don’t mind at all. My daughters are the same way, and sometimes bring their friends and ask me to perform.

I both play and sing, and the enthusiasm shown by my wife, daughters, and my daughters’ friends is very gratifying. Sometimes it gets me to thinking that maybe I do a passable job of it.

My fiance is very similar. I twiddle my thumbs on whether to pull the trigger on certain musical instrument/gear purchases. I'll research stuff to death over weeks sometimes, but she'll come in as the devil on my shoulder: "Just get it!" - or it'll sometimes turn up at our front door as a surprise.

She is also a musician - mostly classical guitar, but plays some piano a well.

She often sneaks in the room while I'm practicing just to sit and listen to me. When I'm upset or stressed or indecisive, she suggests I go practice or write. I've had supportive partners in the past, but she is the most supportive/encouraging and is all around awesome.
