Right, and he should build that new Tele from scratch.

Or better yet, do both. Replace the switch AND then build a new guitar.

You can't trust a Strat, they'll break your heart every time. That's why we're all Tele players.

    I have a MIJ ST54 Strat from 1993 - I've had it since 1994. I love this guitar, it's my other wife!

The only thing that it's ever let me down on is the wiring and switches. I've had to replace the switch, re-solder the jack, and get a few replacement pots over the years. I have some new SD 50's pickups about to go in too as the originals have got weaker and weaker.

I'd say play it safe and replace the switch, and while you're doing it, reflow any other joints that may need it.

I’m with ya Rick. Strats have the curves but just don’t deliver like a Tele. I always wondered why Leo didn’t use the Tele bridge pup in the Strat design. I know, I know, using 3 identical pups is easier and cheaper from a manufacturing perspective but I keep having visions of a Strat with an inconspicuous pickguard-mounted Tele bridge pup. Hmmm.

Yet another possible avenue-vision to pursue with this new Strat as I continue to compare stock Texas Special pup output on this Roadhouse Strat, up against the hotter CSTS Tele pups. There’s a way to bridge that gap?:) Thanks, had yet to consider this.

My Strat has moved on (to my daughter) because I got this Shergold Masquerader which has 2 Strat pickups and a Tele bridge:

Does what I want a Strat to do (mostly the quacks, sometimes the neck pickup) and then it does pretty much what a Tele bridge pickup does.
(And the controls are in the right places too...)
