Some of you may remember about 6 years ago when my marriage was falling apart and my life had really bottomed out. I got divorced - which really was a good thing for both my now ex-wife and myself. No kids involved, we split up the horses and went our separate ways.

A little while later I reconnected with a really good friend from college. One of those Facebook things and we just got a long fantastically. She too was divorced. She had 3 kids and had been divorced for over 10 years. She had two boys who were in their 20s and a girl in high school.

It is kind of scary coming into a family like that. But I was really lucky. The boys accepted me completely and the young girl and I hit it off really well. We liked the same kinds of books and movies and shared a similar sense of humor. I moved out to the East Coast for a year so I could be there during the girl's senior year of High School.

Eventually my college friend became my wife and I became a step-dad. It hasn't always been easy, but it has always been rewarding. And I know that I have had it luckier than most. Ellie, my wife, is really the most wonderful person I have ever met. I am blessed to have her in my life.

Last night my step-daughter, who is now in college, texted me. Sort of out of the blue.

She wanted to tell me that she loved me.

I am an incredibly lucky guy.

    Good story.
Glad your wife turned out to be a sweetheart.

Do you think your ex wife is envious of your
    new love?

Honestly, no. We had become really nothing more than business partners by the time our marriage ended. Love had been gone for a long time.

Glad to hear this nice little story. For a minute there though, as I was reading through it, I wasn't sure how it was gonna end, either real nice or real creepy.

Glad to see that it was the former . . . .

I have step daughters also and it is heaven when they tell you they love you. It's like their choice to do so, not like real family that have to love you, it's like a law or something like that.

I agree with everyone else, cool story.

Why'd she leave Texas (East Coast)?
For some reason A Waylon song came to mind.

My wife and I met in college in the Midwest. I ended up in Texas, she ended up on the East Coast. I moved out there for a little over year, so that I could be there for my step-daughters last year of high school.

Then they moved here to Texas. I know, a lot of moving around. :)

Thanks everyone for your support. It just meant so much to me I wanted to share.
