Gretsch built a run of doublenecks (it was usually a bass neck and guitar neck) in the early 1960s called the Bikini. To make it simple to drag to gigs, the necks disassembled from the body, and the body folded up like a pamphlet on two piano hinges.

Gretsch also made single-neck models with a body that folded in half; the hings ran down the center of the back.

Surf music made people think weird. Some things cannot be helped [shrug].

There's a band called El Ten Eleven and they do quite interesting stuff with a double-neck but it's bass and guitar:

Waidaminnit. You're 74, your kid is 55 and he wants you to build him a complicated and labor intensive guitar?

I thought -I- was poorly raised.

Seriously, my old man thought my brother and I were slave labor for his many labor intensive endeavors. The old man is a one way street. He maintains I owe him half a million dollars (I'm not kidding.) for "expenses incurred" in raising me and my brother owes him another half mil.

This just might be a case for paulownia. Going lightweight on the back and beauty on top would be my vote.

there may be space-shuttles w/ fewer switches, @Skydog1010

Appearance aside (I wince) and weight aside (I groan) and case issues notwithstanding (gonna need casters), I'm at a loss how those many many controls would get wired up.
Heck, on Saturday night, I had my nephew up for dinner and installed a new wiring harness on his p-bass copy, but I would have no clue how to match that many connections (and get it right).

While I appreciate taking on challenges and seeking "growth opportunities" this two neck thing has many attributes I associate with mission failure.
    Possible questions:
Son, have you ever owned/played a BC Rich electric?
    How about a double neck?
Has anybody in the P/W band ever rocked a double neck during services?
Let's find a guitar shop w/ a 2 neck guitar in stock and spend some time there
Cant' find any guitar shops stocking double-necks? Why do you think that is, son?
Then listen to the explanations, answers.

    Peace - Deeve

You should build it, and post lots of pictures here too!

That would be awesome. Flame maple, walnut, ebony, Dimarzios, handcut pearl, Gold hardware, brass nuts...all of it!!

In the the end your son can haul his handmade double bich to church!!

I made a double neck for a band mate that for some reason wanted one. Tried to talk him out of it...but he was not changing his mind. In hindsight, I hope I never do another one, heavy, awkward to finish and construct. He played it for awhile...in the closet since... 20170404_162930.jpg 20170404_162820.jpg

I’ve always kinda wanted an electric 12, but a double neck not so much. I remember considering buying a Danelectro one at one point cause it was really cheap, but I ended up passing.

Those Danos are probably some of the only double necks that are a reasonable weight.

Freeman, just curious, what is the one song you can think of? I can only think of songs where you’d want a twelve but wouldn’t need both.

Stairway, of course, which I'm proud to say I have never played in my life. In fact I have never seen a reason to want to own an electric 12 string but I do have three acoustic 12's which I play all the time (two of them I made).

Paulownia with an outrageous maple cap. Might as well parquet it like a floor, given how big the surface area on that top is going to be. :)

That’s what I figured but then I got it in my head that Page would play that black dc59 in that song. I’m no Zep scholar though, love it but I was to young to see them live.

Don’t know why but I’ve always wanted an electric 12. Probably has something to do with Ric 330’s or something off of Nuggets

Here are my three twelves, very different from each other and I play them a lot. My son does have a nice old D12-20 so he has the acoustic side covered - I frankly don't know what he wants to do with the electric one. I don't even know if he wants to string it normal or bass-ackwards (like a Rick).
