We were sitting together in the music room admiring his collection when I realized that it's better than mine. He has a Martin 00-17, a G&L Broadcaster, and a cool little Kala UBass with some custom engraving. He's only 20 months old, so I have to watch after these things for now... but he really is turning into a collector. I'm thinking of ordering him something from the custom shop.

    He has impeccable taste!
Yes, something from the custom shop should suit him just right!

"Hey Dad - I'm taking the custom shop over to Dizzy's for a jam! I should be back by next Wednesday."

Not bad. My 3 year old only has 1 guitar and its shaped like a giraffe. That didn't stop him from bringing it to show and tell the other day.

I know guys who have bought beautiful Martins and put the Lifetime Warranty in their child's name.

    Forward thinking!

My son is 26 now. I once told him I wanted to be buried with all the guitars in the collection. What does shoving a ham bone up your ass and letting the dogs drag you away mean?

I think it means he'll redefine your idea of collection.
But be comforted that he will include high quality photos of your guitars in the coffin. Rest easy.

My son is 23 and I bought him his guitar collection, 98 Les Paul, SG, Strat, and acoustic. As he progressed, his collection grew.

One summer he painted the exterior of the house and payment, was an Epiphone Les Paul 60s Tribute.

We now play in a jam band together.

    YMMV

Funny about that. I was trolling Youtube and this young guy had 50s and 60s Strats, an old Tele and two double cut LP jrs. and I thought " Hmmnn. Rich kid?"

You’re not talking about Matthew Scott are you? I watch his videos from time to time . I think he just buys fixer uppers and trades up. I kinda dig the guy, too much of an SRV clone though he plays well but if he focused on an original sound he’d really be cookin

I don’t think he’s rich, rich people don’t buy fixer uppers

Yeah , that's the guy. Here in Oz his guitars in that video alone would easily fetch over $100,000.00 AUD
Fixer uppers or not, they would be considered valuable here. Even Joe Bonamassa does that with parts he buys from a mate of mine, Terry O'Riley when he tours here. He rings Terry from the airport, so do the Doobies and others.

Hmmm. Maybe it’s time that my 1 day old grandson begins collecting guitars? Grandpa will store the collection until he graduates from music college with his PhD.
