…they’re playing at the local stop of the 2015 Van’s Warped Tour.

For the last three years Dan (nineteen) has been playing in Makeshift, a pop-punk band. They play original songs, gig a couple of times a month and have self-released a 5 song EP and a 10 song album. The band has been at it since high school and after a few lineup changes they’ve settled into a four piece configuration with Dan on bass and vocals. They’ve established a solid spot in the local scene, but are trying to make something happen to ‘move up’ a level.

They recently got back from an 8 day, 6 gig DIY tour that had them performing from upstate NY to Atlantic City, NJ and as far west as Pittsburgh. They’re planning to hit the road again for a week in August.

In March, they entered the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands (along with close to 200 other local acts). Right after their Philly ‘tour’ show they got word that Makeshift won one of the five local slots on the Ernie Ball stage at the Jones Beach Theatre stop of Van’s Warped Tour in Wantagh, NY on July 11.

I took both of my sons to a couple of Warped Tour dates when they were in their early teens. Not quite my scene, but when you’re a dad and your thirteen or fifteen year old kids want to go to ‘their’ music show – you do what you have to do, right? It never occurred to me that one of them might actually be performing at one of these shows someday.

I’m so proud and happy for these guys.

Here's a link to their Bandcamp page - streaming and digital downloads are free.

I hate to be the heretic here, but --- are they getting paid? Will they be playing the main stage or one of the numerous "side stages"? My experience with the Warped tour has been pretty lame, though I guess there is always "exposure".

No pay - they were 'winners' in the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands. They will be playing the Ernie Ball stage (a side stage, nothing like one of the main stages). I think this was all in my original post.

Anyway - no delusions of grandeur, here. There were five bands selected out of around 200, and they probably will play to the biggest audience of their young 'careers'. IT IS all about the exposure for them.

    That's good enough for me.

I appreciate all the kind words.

    Everything went exceptionally well.
The weather cooperated and Makeshift pulled a pretty good crowd for this particular 'side' stage. They played great, and got a nice response from the crowd and other bands.
No equipment glitches and the sound was excellent. Lots of activity at the merch table moving Makeshift t-shirts, CDs, beanies and free buttons and stickers.

All in all a day I'm sure they'll never forget.

It's taken me a few days to pull together some photos, so here goes...
