My first build was an eBay LP kit that turned-out pretty well.

This build is my first scratch built body. (I do plan to build a neck and wind pickups, eventually.)

A friend gave me two chunks of ash wood that he had cut from a tree that was killed by the dreaded Ash Borer beetle. The cool thing about it is that HE planted the tree when he was in middle school.

I don't have a bandsaw or planer so I took it to the local Woodcrafters and they milled it to a 14" x16" x 1.75" squared block.

Since the LP was done, it was time to get to work on the chunk. I used a jigsaw to cut the rough shape and then a free-hand router with templates to get to the line.

I had a problem with the neck pocket template moving. I had to fill the excessive void with leftover pieces of ash from the cutouts. The neck fit perfectly, after another round with the router.

A view with 8-9 coats of TruOil on the body. I ordered a bunch of used MIM Telecaster stuff from various sellers on Reverb and The Gear Page.

Great save! I'm in the middle of the classical guitar build, and just had to remove a glued headplate and underlying veneers and start over. That sucks.

mix some of your ash sawdust with some white glue and make a putty that you can fill your gaps with next time. It will make that line almost non existent.

As of today, it's about 85% complete and just needs wired and some more TruOil on the body.
