This is Tikka... As you can see the left side of her face is swollen. We think she got stung by a bee this morning when she was taken out to do her business. I already called the emergency vet. They confirmed benadryl was the right course of action, and no need to bring her in unless she has trouble breathing or gets hives. So we just keep a close eye on her today. Poor stupid lunkhead.... She's my buddy.

Hate when pets get sick or injured. Hadda cat that got stung on her paw. Late nite visit to Pet-ER. Ugh. And... another time, one of the cats "Gen. Robt. E Lee, Ret." got attacked, lost the skin off his tail, busted pelvis, skin ripped off his legs... what a mess. He came home from the hospital two weeks later, without his tail and is doing well today - rules the roost! Cost me four grand to get his butt put back together.

Problem is - except for obvious injury, our pets have a hard time telling _us_ what exactly the problem is, and many times their natural response is to just hunker down, sometimes in a place they don't wanna be found.

Awww, poor puffy pup! The benadryl should kick in and reduce that swelling pretty quickly. If she'll let you a little ice on might help too.
One of my dogs got stung or bit by a wolf spider and I did have to take her to the vet, it was on her snout and the swelling was unreal.

My face looked just like that when I stumbled upon a hornets nest while organizing the wood pile.

I once got a facefull of yellowjacket stings about 25 feet up a telephone pole.
I was an 18 year old TV cable lineman, when there were such things.
I had to take my safety hitch off and climb down while they were showing me who’s boss.
The office girls shrieked when they saw me.
My face looked like a clenched fist!

    Tikka will be fine.

For solace just do a Google image search for “dogs and cats stung by bees”...

It’s all gigantic paws and faces that live to swat/bite another day !

One of Nashville's "Red Wasp" stung our Jack Russel in the back and the emergency vet confirmed it would have killed him.

They're evil creatures for sure. Just watch and wait. Good Luck

Happens to my dog as well, I think he's seeking revenge from the last time each time now.
Much better than the porcupine event from a few ago though.

Tufnell tried to swallow a bee when he was a pup and it stung him at the back of his throat. We took turns to sit with him all night to make sure he was OK as he had trouble breathing. He never eat a bee again!
All the best to your pooch.

It's just time for another round of benadryl. The swelling in her face has gone down a good bit, but now she has welts under her fur running down both sides and a couple on her head. She's acting mostly good though - before I took a nap she was acting like her hind end was itchy. My daughter fed the dogs just as soon as I got up, and she (Tikka... Not my daughter... Haha) gets really excited at feeding time. Keeping an eye on her.

Edit: by the way, thanks for all the well wishes... Tikka says she really appreciates it!;)

My two brain trusts did the same thing early in the summer. They went out in the fenced yard early one morning. Came back in a few minutes. One had a side of her face swollen, the other was hobbling on three legs. Benadryl per the vet and they went back to bee hunting a few days later.
