I got turned on to these guys a while back. I really really dig their music, but I don't know that I'd classify them as a Blues Band though.

    Hi.

Yeah, I've known about them for a while, but it's only in the last six months or so that I've looked at them more. Now I'm really into them.

We can come back to that :). Later though, when I don't have to look like I'm working

    Hi.

As I implied above, I'm joking, but only slightly.

Yeah, they're not a blues band, per se, but I'd argue that when they do 'blues,' they are more blues than many contemporary blues bands / performers. Tackling contemporary issues from the cultural location they are placed in, as opposed to moaning about, you know, trains leaving town and the like, playing with emotion & gusto rather than, you know, the storm of notes thing, etc. Also, my understanding is ye olde blues performers often crossed style boundaries, especially to suit their audience, so one might even be able to build a case that All Them Witches' other leanings makes them more authentically blues than those others that, you know, slavishly adhere to the prescribed stylings and trappings, be they sonic or sartorial.

Just my tentative, off the cuff argument (similar to the one I attempt, arguing that early 50s rock and roll folk were actually punks).

Now, where is that blue sunglass emoji guy...? Oh, yes, here he goes.

I am of the opinion that there are very few, if any real Bluesmen left. If I were to go into the reasons why I think that is I would be venturing into dangerous waters here on the forum regarding certain topics.

That said, I agree with you on Them Witches' music being thematically more in line with what the Blues is meant to be than, say, whatever happens on one of those Blues Cruises.

I really like their music and the way they combine little pieces of everything from the Doors, and the Allman Brothers to Black Sabbath and even Nick Cave.

I don't know how I feel about All Them Witches still. I first heard of them a few years back as they seem to be lumped into the stoner rock scene but they don't really fit in it to my ear. I can listen to them one day and think they're pretty good, but I can listen to the same song another day and just not be feeling it.

My favorite band on the bluesier side of the stoner rock scene is Youngblood Supercult. They broke up and only have one really solid record but damn, is it a good record.

    Hi.

Which one? Keeping with the Witch theme, or going geographical or social?*

    Thanks.
