Hello everyone,
I have been a long time reader and this is my first time posting.
I have been building guitars on and off for ten years now since I was 14. I just recently made a custom guitar which I will provide a link to for pictures. It's a solid mahogany body with a bolt on indian rosewood neck with a 25.5" scale.
I had Pete Biltoft make pickups for it. They sound incredible. He requested that I sign up on a forum to give a review.
When I was looking for pickups, I decided to go to Pete to have them made. I ordered a tele set from him earlier for a tele that I built and they were great. For this guitar, I wanted something very unique. These pickups riff on the idea of SD P-rails. I like to call them CC-90s.
As you can see, on coil is modeled after the Charlie Christian pickup and the other is based on his SP 90 pickup. Along with the standard volume, tone and 3 way pickup selector, I included two DPDT mini toggles to switch through each coil and both in series humbucker. The pickups use composite magnets composed of both alnico 2 and 5. The coils are very mismatched in terms of their resistance.
I asked Pete to wind the CC coil to sound more like an old Dynasonic pickup. It does have a clear, bell like sound. It also has a great clucky sound about it too. The SP 90 coil sound like your typical p90 and has a far more searing midrange than the CC coil. With both coils in series humbucker, you have a pickup that is hard to describe in sound. Admittedly they are on the dark side but there is a rich, complexity about them. A recording is soon to follow. All in all, they are a great set of pickups unlike anything else out there, made at a very reasonable price.
In the mean time, here are some pics of the guitar.

And some more of my work.
