So, a while back I saw the Glarry ads on Ebay, 52 quid for a Tele shape guitar in a range of cool sunburst colours.......
Now, as a regular builder, 20 or so builds under my belt all of which have been a good standard and set up nice, I thought what the hell, I have never really enjoyed the whole painting of guitars, don’t mind staining but clearcoat, sand, sand, sand palava I do not like, and the whole waiting to cure business, nah not this time......

so I really only bought it for the body, ok so it’s basswood, but outta the box I was pretty surprised being honest. I have had a few 1000 dollar Fenders over the years so I appreciate a decent guitar, not comparing to those but gotta say it was alright, pickups were of course terribly ice picky, and the neck was rather fat.

so, stripped it down in about ten minutes, sold the neck almost instantly for half the price of the guitar to some local guy...excellent so only stands me on at 30 quid now!

Everything else was put away, never to be used again, tuners, pots, switch and pickups etc...all not used..

then I found a really great neck from the Netherlands, all gloss black, Strat style headstock, amaranth fingerboard, nice fretwork, and fitted black locking tuners, I kinda wanted a bit of a stealth look...

next came the pickups, I put in a set of Tonerider Hot Classics, used these before and have an Esquire with a Hot Classic in the bridge and they rock......along with a Wilkinson vintage style bridge

all new wiring and cts pots, toggle switch, orange drop cap, all black screws, black neck plate and screws and Ernie ball 10’s......all good.

I made the pickguard and control plate from black anodised aluminium and hand engraved the Scorpion motif.

really pleased with how it turned out

Great job. Looks fantastic. The last time I bought a chunk of basswood big enough for a body it was as much as you paid for the whole guitar. Can’t beat these with a stick. Pre-finished and ready to go.
