My wife and I went out to a local joint to have a couple of brews, and it turned out that a few friends of mine were playing. I was talking to one friend, and he said 'Oh, I've got my Rick here.' I asked to see it, and what he took out of the case was pretty surprising.

He said it was an '81 that he bought used, and he said as far as he knew it was all original.

I've never seen a Rick in that color. Any Rickenbacker guys here who can shed some light on this finish?

Wineglo. I had a 12 string like that.

The guy I bought my AC15 from let me try it out with one like that, except it had tortoise shell pickguards, which looked surprisingly cool

    Cool! :)

I've never been so drawn to a Rickenbacher photo, it's got a certain patina and something about that neck makes me want to try it.

Some days I miss my Rick 330, although it was not as cool looking as this one in wineglo.

The only thing I had to mod on it was the addition of a treble bleed: Ricks have their volume pot wired « backwards » (hot lead from PU connected to the middle lug) in order to have independent volume on each pickup (unlike a Les Paul). The downside is instant mud when backing off the volume.
Other than that, they are really cool guitars!

I’ve seen those words before, but when you put them together, it confuses me...:D

I believe they revisited that later as the base color for “Montezuma Brown...”

Thanks for the responses. I'd never even heard of that color, let alone seen one on a Rick!

Mudglo! Never seen one. It looks like Fender walnut/mocha.

Very cool... 360-6 WineGlo... you can tell it's older by the narrower, more rounded headstock.... my '89 is wider and more pointy than that. That is a cool color, and it has definitely seen a few gigs. It has character for sure... love it.

Oh, and the color was called "Burgundyglo", not "Wineglo".

Here is a 481 (the model with slanted frets) in that color.

^^ I played a slant-fret 481 in an old shop in Boston back in the 80s and they wanted $350 for it and I didn't buy it... continuing self-ass-kicking ever since.

Same here. Same timeframe, but it was in Houston. Those slanted frets played surprisingly well. I mean really well. Not sure if you'd agree, but I thought so.

Peter Buck of REM has or had a 330 in that color. I think it is burgundyglo. It was Buck's second to his black 330 on stage and showed up in photo shoots.

He did play a 330 in the very early days, but for the most part PB has played 360s, including, I believe, the black one you mention.

Yeah, I miss the smaller headstock. Looking at the 12-string in that image, Rickenbacker basically went to that bigger pointier shape for everything in the mid-late '80s. Guess they got tired of making two different profiles. Too bad.

Johnny Marr's 330 was from this time, too. An '82, I believe.
