    However, he didn't order them...

He came home from work yesterday to find a completely new set of gutters on his house...

They were for his neighbor - the contractor installed them on the wrong house...

Numeracy really is in trouble. Who knew reading a house number would be so hard.

We got two free lawn treatments from some company this year. No clue where they meant to go, but my lawn looked spectacular for a while there.

Well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if his neighbor wants to come over once a week just to admire them...

I once came home to find that my lawn had been aerated. They had the right house number, but the rong street. It looked like a herd of cats had camped in my front yard.

So I guess the next question would be, who's responsible for cleaning them every fall..

They definitely picked the wrong house to try and shake him down for payment even though it was their mistake...

Lucky for the landscaper you're not like me. I'd have freaked if someone sprayed chemicals on my lawn.

As an ex mail carrier who often filled in on unknown routes in various cities... I can attest that there are many stretches of residential street in the U.S. with no numbers anywhere. Not on the houses, not on the street, not on the curbs. Additionally, some house numbers are completely out of order, random, and make zero sense.

Not sure if that applies in this case.

We've had PAINTERS repaint the wrong house here in Tucson, AZ, and then TRY to bill the wrong address for the mistake...made the newspaper a couple times.

I once had a cute blonde repaint my porch for $50.
Then she informed me, "That's a Toyota, not Porch!"

Many many years ago I installed a dishwasher in the wrong mansion in Beverly Hills. Knocked on the wrong door, the guy just let me me, later said he though maybe his daughter ordered it. I went back the next day, took it out, put the old one back in and went next door to install the new one where it belonged. BTW the wrong address was on my work order.

IMHO your friend can keep the gutters for free, or make them remedy the situation in another way if he doesn't like them.

I had a crew come in and do a nice pro cleaning of the AC ductwork. They knocked, my cleaning lady let them in and they completed the job and left and I found out later - they were on the wrong street, one block over.

I had been meaning to have it done, anyway. I paid the crew something like 2/3rds of the usual price, I think? I used that AC guy a number of times thereafter - I kinda wish I'd stayed with this AC guy since the guy my girlfriend lined up years later, for her house, was a bum. The bum installed an inoperable compressor, then Katrina intervened and drowned his sorry compressor, and he still wanted to be paid. I don't think so.

Darn. I could use that luck. I have an appointment to meet a contractor for a bid in about an hour.
